Those who thought Paul Reed Smith guitars weren't suitable for metal should have a long hard look at this purple PRS SE. It is the Paul Allender signature model, the guitarist of black metal band Cradle of Filth. This proper shredder is made to handle the roughest guitaring and is equipped with a set of powerful EMG pickups with coil tap for single-coil sounds. Additionally, the PRS birds in the fretboard have been replaced (or should we say, eaten) by Paul's distinctive bat inlays. The PRS SE Paul Allender comes with a rugged PRS SE gig bag.

Construction and tone of the PRS SE Paul Allender

Like most PRS guitars, the SE Paul Allender also has a warm and fat sounding mahogany body. The essential bit of extra punch comes from the maple neck, which features a comfortably fast PRS Wide Thin profile and a 24-fret rosewood fretboard. The top of the body features a beautiful piece of flamed maple veneer and bevelled edges for a luxury carved-top look. Additionally, the neck of the PRS SE Paul Allender is set into the body to ensure maximum attack and sustain.

EMG pickups and hardware

The bridge of the SE Paul Allender is a PRS-designed tremolo that lets you create subtle or rather dramatic vibrato effects. The supple yet solid PRS sealed self-lubricating tuners keep the guitar well in tune. Pickup-wise, there's an EMG 81TW at the bridge for a tight, aggressive crunch, and an EMG 89 in the neck position for a rich, warm and powerful tone. You can split one or both of the humbuckers by pulling out the volume and tone knob, to give you the clear and sparkling tones of single-coil pickups - perfect for cleans.
