The NS7 has returned! It has found its way into the modern era. The NS7 was one of the first full-size DJ MIDI controllers to match the feel of real turntables. It did so quite successfully, causing many to make the transition. In this modern day and age, however, it is important to move with the times and with new available technology. Numark think so too, and for that reason they have updated the NS7. Say hello to the NS7 II!
Technology of the NS7 II
The NS7 II has retained most of the functionality, the layout and the high quality of its predecessor, but is equipped with a number of new features. The 8 multi-colour RGB pads, which can be used to trigger samples, take a central position. These pads are supplied by Akai (who are also a member of the inMusic group), so they feature the famous MPC quality. A new four-channel mixer has been integrated into the NS7 II, and a built-in 24-bit audio interface provides optimal sound quality. One thing that Numark have not changed, luckily, are the rotating, 7-inch platters. The grooved top layer of the artificial vinyl records feels familiar and solid. Combined with the MPC-style RGB pads, they allow for highly creative DJ sets!
Other characteristics of the NS7 II
The NS7 II comes with an accessory, full-fledged Serato DJ package, which enables you to really make the most of the controller. All channels and the master are equipped with an elaborate VU meter. Both the construction and the size of the controller remain unchanged. This new and improved edition of the NS7 is as impressive as it ever was. Its sizeable body gives it a professional look and the conveniently placed large controls, jog wheels and pads allow you to work very accurately. Five hot cues per deck and a low/high pass filter per channel enable you to work creatively, as does the elaborate effects module that features endless rotaries and 3 parameters per effect. Four-deck support allows you to choose between deck 1/3 and 2/4.

- A free upgrade to Serato DJ 1.2 is available and can be downloaded from the Serato website.
- At present, Serato DJ does not support AMD processors or Windows 8.

Sinds een paar maand ben ik dus de trotse eigenaar van de Numark NS7II. Ben er best tevreden over. Hiervoor had ik eerst de Numark DDS-80, en dan de Numark NS6. Ook van die 2 was ik zeer tevreden.
Maar nu eerst dus de NS7II.
Wat betreft het gebruiksgemak, top! Alles werkt naar behoren, en je krijgt zeker waar voor je geld. Inderdaad, niet onmiddellijk goedkoop, maar dat zorgt er ook voor dat niet de eerste beste huis- en tuin-DJ deze in huis haalt :-)
Het toestel oogt heel "sexy" (volgens mijn vrouw) en is zeer stevig gemaakt. Dat komt dan iets minder ten goede aan het gewicht. Ik ben een mobiele DJ, dus niet constant in dezelfde club of zaak, en jawel, als er dan één minpunt is aan dit toestel dan is het vooral het gewicht. Reken daar nog eens een goeie flightcase bij (die heb je echt wel nodig) dan is de rug het eerste slachtoffer :-) Geen probleem voor mij, ik wil voor deze kwaliteit gerust een beetje meer heffen, en de flight heeft ook 2 wieltjes zodat ik deze niet de hele weg moet dragen natuurlijk.
De NS7II zit boordevol met functies, teveel om zo maar op te noemen, maar elke DJ kan hier gerust zijn creativiteit in kwijt. Je kan beginnen met de manual te lezen, maar pas als je echt met het ding gaat spelen, blijkt wat een veelvuldigheid aan FX en functies deze controller heeft. Elke keer ik thuis in de studio nog wat oefen, vind ik weer een aantal dingen die je kan combineren en die je mixen een eigen sound kunnen geven.
Bij de NS7II vallen natuurlijk ook vooral de meedraaiende Platters op! Wat geeft dat een nostalgie en ze zijn de beste in de industrie ook!
Een paar dingen waar je zeker moet op letten als je deze wil aanschaffen zijn de volgende (beter om weten zodat je geen verrassingen hebt)
- Zorg voor of een Apple, of voor een laptop met een INTEL processor. Al de rest geeft veel moeilijkheden. Numark waarschuwt er op hun site ook voor, maar veel DJ's klagen op het forum dat hun pc, laptop niet goed werkt met de NS7II. 99% heeft dan de verkeerde processor.
- Een klein minpunt, nog steeds, is dat je nog steeds geen echte "instant start" hebt, of je moet starten door een cue te gebruiken en dan pas op de startknop duwen. Anders krijg je een minieme vertraging die je mix om zeep helpt. Is perfect op te lossen, maar het is aan Numark om in één van zijn volgende updates hier wat aan te doen. Toch één van de veel terugkomende vragen op het supportforum van Numark.
Voor de rest enkel maar goeie dingen, ik heb 'm en ben er aan verslingerd.
Dus 4 sterren! zodra het probleem van de vertraging is opgelost door Numark... 5 sterren, gegarandeerd!
Op dit fataal grote probleem na een machtige controller. Mochten ze bij Numark een oplossing hebben voor dat USB-dropout probleem, dan is het echt een aanrader !!
