General
The Sound on Sound is a hand-sized, multi-track recorder that allows you to play a recorded song and make an overdub with new tracks. You can make as many overdubs as you like without having to worry that you don't have enough tracks. Pick a rhythm, record your guitar playing, sing a melody, add harmonies and play one solo, two solos or you might as well play 50. The tracks are stored in 44.1 kHz/16-bit on a microSD card. The amount of available tracks depends on the size of that card.
Every overdub track will be individually stored as a WAV file. This allows you to load each overdub directly in a DAW. These individual files are BWF (Broadcast Wave Files) which means that they contain time information. With that information, tracks that have been dubbed in the middle of the song, will also come up in a DAW that supports BWF.
The Sound on Sound also has 100 different effects including effects for electric (bass) guitars, acoustic guitars, vocals and other instruments. You can apply these effects during your recording or after. The Master effects are applied to the entire track and are divided into Guitar, Mic, Master and Touch. These effects can be controlled in real-time with the touch screen.
The SR1 is also equipped with a rhythm function which might come in handy when you are working out your ideas and parts of tracks. You can use it as a tempo indication or to make a rhythm track. There are 50 tracks to choose from, each with four variations. You will only have to select the pattern and set the tempo. You can select the different variations by means of the touch screen.
The SR-1 is also equipped with digital (bass) guitar and chromatic tuner functions in order to make your recordings totally flawless. The calibration range is 435 Hz to 445 Hz.
With the Sound on Sound you can record electric and acoustic instruments and vocals. It is equipped with a high-quality stereo condenser microphone with a wide frequency response that can record acoustic instruments accurately. It is possible to adapt the Tone, Low Cut and Noise Gate functions to the sound source and the preferred recording. There is also an external microphone input so electric guitars and bass guitars can be connected directly to the SR1 via the Guitar In. For external sound sources you can use the Line In. Via the headphones input or built-in monitor speaker you can listen to your recordings. So, you won't need to add extra equipment.
The design of the SR1 is wedge-shaped so it fits perfectly into your hand and can easily be placed on a table. Controlling the recorder is easy as all buttons are placed at the front. The improved screen design provides a clear overview of the working functions and settings. You have direct access to the playing functions, volume, effect and rhythm settings by means of the touch screen.
