The original version of the Pandora was already quite popular among musicians. At the NAMM 2011, Korg introduced a new edition of the effect processor, featuring a smaller housing: the Pandora MINI.
Pandora: minimal size, maximum performance
This second generation of the Pandora is remarkably versatile. The compact design houses an exceptionally wide array of preset programs, as well as freely adjustable user programs, which enable you to create a totally unique sound.
Plug it in & turn it on
The Korg Pandora MINI is equipped with an auxiliary input for the connection of an external audio source, such as a computer, a CD player or an MP3 player. A guitar input is also provided, as well as an output for a guitar amplifier, and a headphone output enables you to practise quietly without bothering those around you. The Pandora MINI is powered by means of an AA battery or via USB. Additionally, the USB port enables you to edit your settings - ideal if you're using the Korg effect processor at home.

Er zitten 200 presets in en dan nog eens 200 plaatsen om je eigen sounds in op te slaan. De amp modeling is over de hele linie overtuigend genoeg. En de keur aan FX nog overtuigender. Tegen het licht van de prijs gehouden: Dikke 10.
Tuurlijk zijn de grote apparaten van Line 6, Boss en Vox een stuk uitgebreider en klinken die wel wat beter, maar wat verwacht je? Als je deze luciferdoos over een echte buizenbak laat werken, hoor je wel dat het misschien wat beter kan. Maar voor bijvoorbeeld op een klein oefenampje of in je pc of mac is het echt te gek. De FX zijn redelijk uitgebreid te tweaken. Zowel op de MINI zelf, als met de gratis software.
Iedere gitarist, van welke stijl dan ook, kan hier prima een goede sound uit halen.
Geweldig is ook dat er een flink aantal drum patronen af te spelen zijn. Rock, pop, clicktracks, drumfills, noem maar op. En als je bassist bent, heb je toegang tot 40 presets met bijbehorende bass FX en amps.
Nadeeltje: Bij hoge gain settings zit er flink wat hiss op de lijn. Oplossing: Minder gain of hard spelen.
Tip voor de makers: Zet er een clipje aan, zodat je hem aan je gitaarband kunt bevestigen. Zo kun je tijdens het spelen toch snel switchen dankzij de mogelijkheid om 4 presets onder 4 knopjes te zetten.
Of beter nog: een manier om hem op je gitaar vast te zetten. Maar dan moeten de ins en outs wel naar de bovenkant van het machientje.
Conclusie: Briljant apparaat, geniale afmetingen, mooie prijs, zeer veel mogelijkheden. Goede geluiden, overtuigende FX.
Zelf heb ik ook een Vox ToneLab ST en dan merk je wel een beetje verschil in geluidskwaliteit. Vooral in de amp-modeling.
Niet te lang geleden heb ik ook een Line6 PocketPod gehad. Snel weer weg gedaan. Drama. Dit is veel beter.
