General

De Casio XW-P1 is een zeer expressieve en gebruiksvriendelijke synthesizer die speciaal bedoeld is voor podium-gebruik. Allereerst heeft u met dit model een scala aan hoge kwaliteit geluiden tot uw beschikking, zoals piano's, strings, gitaren en drums. De speciale solo-synth functie laat u hierbij de meest wervelende synthesizer-partijen spelen, in ouderwets monofone stijl en met vintage synth-klanken. De 9 schuiven doen denken aan de schuiven op de ouderwetse toonwiel-orgels en dat is ook één van hun functies. Daarnaast zet u ze in voor het praktische HexLayer, waarmee u tonen maakt van wel zes lagen dik.

De Casio XW P1 en live-gebruik

Vooral live is de Casio XW-P1 een zeer dankbare synthesizer. Met de step-sequencer kunnen eenvoudige diverse patronen gelaagd worden ingespeeld. Met de phrase-sequencer neemt u muzikale frases op. Erg handig is ook de zogenaamde Performance Mode, die 4 interne of externe instrument-zones creëert, waarbij opgeslagen effecten, step sequences, arpeggiators en phrases meteen kunnen worden opgeroepen. Door de Casio XWP1 op een extern geluidssysteem aan te sluiten of een hoofdtelefoon te gebruiken, geeft u hem een stem. U neemt dit 5,4 kg wegende instrument overigens gemakkelijk mee!

Uw eigen geluid

Om zelf sounds te maken, kunnen de voorgeprogrammeerde tonen uitgebreid worden aangepast. U heeft echter ook de mogelijkheid om geluiden van de grond af op te bouwen. Met de diverse schuiven en controller-knoppen kunnen de klanken snel en nauwkeurig worden afgesteld. Ook kunt u via de 6,3 mm microfoon/line-ingangen uw stem of een instrument opnemen en van effecten voorzien. Op de 3,5 mm stereo-ingang sluit u bijvoorbeeld een MP3-speler, telefoon, laptop of tablet aan. Al met al een uitstekend klinkend, bijzonder uitgebreid, lichtgewicht en makkelijk te gebruiken synthesizer voor de gevorderde muzikant.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
