De Master Control is de perfecte oplossing voor studio projecten waar hoge kwaliteit vereist is. Het is een 'All-in-one' audio interface en control unit met 8 kanalen met een sample rate van 44.1kHz tot 192kHz en een snelle Firewire connectie. De audio interface heeft twee microfooningangen (XLR) met 48V fantoomvoeding en kanaal ingangen en zes line ingangen. Om opnames en sessies te beluisteren heeft de master control zes analoge uitgangen, te gebruiken als 5.1 surround of 3 x stereo.

In tegenstelling tot de Tascam FW controllers, werk de Alesis namelijk wel zonder problemen onder Windows 7. Ik heb er inmiddels enkele opnamen mee gemaakt in mijn vaste studio en tevens van een rockband op locatie. Daar de Master Control slechts beschikt over twee mic. ingangen, dien je bij grotere projecten dus wel gebruik te maken van een extra voorversterker (ik gebruik zelf de Presonus D8).
De geluidskwaliteit is behoorlijk goed en het apparaat heeft een gemakkelijke leercurve. De zes uitgangen zijn erg handig, je kan er zelfs surround mee afmixen! Een minpunt is, dat de machine niet is uitgerust met een digitale uitgang. Maar indien je de complete bewerking/mastering binnen je DAW uitvoert, is dit natuurlijk geen probleem. Nog een nadeel is, dat hij niet in een 19" rack past (jammer, indien je veel on-the-road bent).
Samenvattend; een erg mooi- robuust gebouwd- apparaat, waarvan je de ins en outs snel onder de knie hebt. De Alesis Master Control heeft een prima geluidskwaliteit en plenty uitbreidingsmogelijkheden. Ondanks eerder genoemde minpuntjes, zeker de moeite waard.
