If you want to buy a shekere, then you've come to the right place. Here at Bax Music, we carry a wide assortment of percussion instruments, including this unique West African instrument. Despite its origin, shekeres are often used in Latin-American and Brazilian music, which means they are often heard together with the djembe as well as congas or agogos. Originally, the shekere was made from a kalebas gourd with dried nuts or seeds woven into a net around it. Modern shekeres, however, are made from fibreglass and beads. When compared to similar percussion instruments, it's interesting to note that with the shekeres, the beads are on the outside and is played by shaking, twisting, or slapping the gourd to produce a variety of effects.
