General
This rugged subwoofer by Nova is equipped with two powerful 15-inch speakers that deliver 1000 watts RMS with an SPL of 132 dB. The VS 215 Sub is ideal for taking on the road, but is just as suitable for fixed installations as well. The unique thing about this subwoofer is that the crossover can be switched to either active or passive, meaning it can be used in a wide variety of configurations.
Nova VS 215 Sub: lightweight, heavy sound
The VS 215 Sub weighs around 45 kg, which is very lightweight for a subwoofer of this size! Its performance is anything but light, however, as it's able to produce frequencies as low as 35 Hz. As mentioned above, you can use the crossover filter to toggle between active and passive mode. In active mode, audio is split up—anything under 120 Hz is sent to the subwoofer and anything over 120 Hz is sent to the 'thru' output. In passive mode, the complete audio is sent to the output.
The housing
The speaker cabinet of this sub is made of 15mm-thick plywood with a durable PVC coating, making it able to withstand the rigours of life on the road. It has a stand flange and has 4 integrated handles for easy manageability.
Tips or comments about this productPlease note:
- when used in combination with the Nova Visio VS12 and the Nova VS215, pay attention how you connect this subwoofer. On the rear of the VS215, there is a switch to toggle between active & passive mode. If you use two amplifiers and separate processing, you need to set the sub to "Active" for a Bi-amp configuration. If you use an individual amp, then the switch needs to be set to "Passive" mode. If you're using the P7000S, you can also use the XO (crossover frequency) on the rear of the amplifier.
- Important: be sure to use a 4-pin Speakon cable, not a 2-pin one. Otherwise you won't get any sound, and you may even damage the system.
