General
The Electro Voice ZX4 is a passive speaker equipped with a 15-inch woofer that can be used in both fixed and mobile installations or as a floor monitor. As such, a wide variety of people and organizations can make use of the ZX4, such as DJs, small bands or theatre groups. It produces 400 W of continuous power, resulting in a maximum sound pressure of 132 dB, which means that it can easily amplify cafes and small venues with up to 200 people. Moreover, the ZX4 has a lightweight, solid build, making it a reliable companion that will be at your side for the years to come.
Applications
This polypropylene speaker has a horizontal dispersion angle of 90 degrees, making it perfectly suited for serving as a head speaker in a stereo configuration. You can easily place it on a speaker stand, thanks to the built-in stand adapter, and you won't have to worry about stability because it weighs in at only 20 kg. The eight rigging points on the ZX4 make it likewise suited for flying, which is convenient should you choose to make it part of a permanent installation. If you would like to use the ZX4 as a floor monitor, that's no problem either, because it's been designed with a slanted side so the sound comes at you at a 45-degree angle. If you don't have much room on stage or in your rehearsal space, then you can use the sunken feet on this speaker, which you can easily extend with a Phillips screw driver. This setting puts the dispersion angle at 55 degrees, so you can stand quite close to it and still get optimal sound.
Sound
The ZX4 has a rather linear frequency response, giving it an even sound. The treble and bass are in good balance, whereby speech and vocals are always crystal clear, and the bass stays nicely afloat, even at higher volumes. The 15-inch woofer works together with the 1-inch compression driver to offer 400 W of continuous power with a 1,600W peak. With all of these features combined, it's quite clear that this ZX4 is a versatile speaker with a great sound and a light weight.

Met regelmaat wordt me gevraagd feestjes voor een man of 100 te draaien en dan komen de SX300 tekort aan bas (als de subs niet worden ingezet).
Om deze reden heb ik de ZX4 van EV aangeschaft, behoorlijk compact, hoge max spl en meer bas (volgens de specs vanaf 60 Hz)
De kasten voldoen uitstekend! in vergelijking met de SX 300 minder agressief in het hoog waarschijnlijk door het toepassen van een ander filter wand de hoorn is dezelfde.
Om de kasten aan te sturen is het wel van belang een versterker te kiezen die een bak aan vermogen kan leveren, EV adviseert de q99 met een vermogen van 2 x 550W, ikzelf gebruik een Yamaha versterker met dik 2 x 500 watt aan 8 ohm maar als het echt hard gaat hoor ik toch wat vervorming van het geluid, dus de volgende versterker die mijn zx-en gaat aansturen zal ik zwaarder kiezen, meer vermogen denk aan 2 x 750 w bij 8 ohm.
De bas is veel beter hoorbaar in vergelijking met de SX300, de kasten klinken veel warmer en iets minder vermoeiend, ze zijn zeker geschikt voor feesten tot 100-150 man verwacht geen diepe bas maar wel een behoorlijk kick bas waardoor het aangenaam klinkt en hard genoeg gaat.
Het is duidelijk een upgrade van de SX300 maar daar betaal je dan ook fors voor.
Als je kleinere feestjes draait tot 100 man max en je wilt een hoge geluidsdruk en een behoorlijk geluid dan is de zeer compacte sx300 nog steeds de standaard, als het allemaal net iets harder mag en de feestjes soms wat groter kies dan voor de ZX, fijn geluid, betrouwbaar, hoge SPL en makkelijk te transporteren.
