It's already been more than 10 years since VOX turned the amplifier world on its head with the Valvetronix series. This series of amps combined digital modelling technology with convincing tube sounds. Since then, models have slowly but steadily improved along with digital technology. Now however, the time is ripe for VOX to introduce another series that, rather than show another slow and steady improvement, offer something more like evolution accelerated. Meet the VT20X, the VT40X and the VT100X, the first three models from the new series.
Valvetronix + VETIt has to be said that there was not much to improve when it came to the Valvetronix circuit with its 12AX7 tube. Digital technology on the other hand has come on leaps and bounds since the introduction of the Valvetronix series. VOX has taken these improvements on board and implemented them into what it calls Virtual Element Technology. Instead of trying to simply mimic the sound of legendary amplifiers, the new modelling algorithm actually recreates the analogue circuits. This means that it's not just the sound that is reproduced, but also the way the amp responds, whether that's an American clean or a typical British sound. The ability to customise your sound has also been greatly improved, whilst retaining the renowned ease of use.
Something for everyoneWith three models to choose from, you should be able to pick the one that's right for you. The VT20X is a 20-watt amp with an 8-inch speaker that is perfect for practising at home. If you're looking for something slightly louder for practising, recording or performing, then the 40-watt VT40X may be right for you. It has a 10-inch speaker. If that's still not loud enough, what about the VT100X, a 100-watt amplifier with a 12-inch speaker? If this series is anywhere near as successful as the original Valvetronix series, you're going to be seeing a lot more of these amps around. It would be a real surprise if this didn't happen though, because once again VOX is one step ahead of the competition.
