NAMM 2016: M-Audio MIDISport Interfaces Updated |
Thursday 21 January 2016 by Lizanne | |
The MIDI interfaces by the well-known studio brand M-Audio have been updated. Now, the MIDISport interfaces feature a full-blown USB 3.0 hub as well as several MIDI inputs and outputs for connecting even more devices.
DIN connectorsMost music/studio equipment has standard 5-pin DIN connectors for receiving or transmitting MIDI signals. These connectors aren't found on a computer, however, which is why you need a MIDI interface in the form of a special cable or a unit like this one, which offers a lot more possibilities. The new MIDISport Hub doesn't limit you to a single in or output, but offers two MIDI IN/OUTs (the MIDISport Hub 2x2) or even four (the MIDISport Hub 4x4). MIDI-interface and powered USB hubBoth interfaces send incoming signals directly to your computer to be edited by a DAW or other MIDI software. In the case of the 2x2, it's even possible to allow the signals exit the interface through the MIDI outputs when in the THRU mode. In USB mode, the computer can transfer MIDI information to the MIDI OUTs itself. When you connect the included power adapter to the MIDISport Hub, the USB hub comes to life and allows you to expand your computer with three extra USB 3.0 ports. You can then hook up all kinds of USB gear, even devices that require a powered USB hub. Keep an eye on the relevant product pages for up-to-date information on availability and pricing.
