Suddenly, there they were: eight new guitars in different colour combinations by Yamaha. After two decades, they have unveiled an entirely new line of guitars called Revstar . Inspired by the XS650 motorbikes from the early 1970s, these robust RS series guitars are clearly the result of years of experienced craftsmanship and are designed to fulfill every guitarist's wishes.
Japanese beautyYamaha's Revstar series has something for everyone. The flagship model is the RSP20CR, available in a Brushed Black or Rusty Rat finish, complete with racing stripes! This particular model was actually built in Japan and is finished by hand with a brass pickguard and a TUSQ faux-ivory string nut. All the other models in the RS series are equipped with a rosewood fretboard with jumbo frets on a mahogany neck. They have a mahogany body, a maple top and hardware with a matte nickel finish. Besides a pair of alnico humbuckers and two controls for volume and tone, Yamaha has kept the RSP20CR relatively simple. The slightly less-expensive version is the RS820CR, which comes in Rusty Rat and Steel Rust.
Yamaha RS720B: an instant classicAn especially striking model is the RS720B which features a Bigsby B-50 tremelo system, a flamed maple top, trapezoid position markers and Filtertron humbuckers. This model also comes in two colour variations: Ash Grey and Wall Fade, for a classic tone and look, or without the Bigsby (RS620 Burnt Charcoal or RS620 Brick Burst). If you love nostalgia, you'll love the RS502T in Bowden Green. The flashy green colour in combination with an aluminium tail piece and cream-coloured alcino P-90 pickups is reminiscent of the British Racing Green race cars of yesteryear. If you're not a fan of the tail piece or colour, however, there are two more modestly-coloured versions available, namely the RS502 in Billet Green or Shop Black, both of which are still equipped with P-90s. Start to finishYamaha is a manufacturer that takes musicians with smaller budgets into consideration as well. They kick their Revstar series off with the RS320 model in three high-gloss colours: Black Steel, Red Copper and Stock Yellow. This model is the only one in the series that is made of nato wood and equipped with ceramic humbuckers. For guitarists who can afford a bit more luxury, Yamaha offers the RS420 in Black Steel, Fired Red and Factory Blue. The fact remains, Revstars are made to be played, and Yamaha ensures with this broad assortment that there's something for everyone!
