The developers over at Antelope Audio are modern-day pioneers when it comes to new software technology. The brand is known for high-end clocking generators and converters, and audio interfaces boasting the acclaimed FPGA platform, which brings us to their latest unveiling: the Discrete 4 and Discrete 8 audio interfaces, which now feature microphone modelling. Discrete 4 & Discrete 8: discrete preamps and moreThe Discrete 4 and Discrete 8 audio interfaces are much more than meet the eye. For starters, the preamps have been redesigned from the ground up and feature six discrete (completely separated) transistors. What's more, Antelope have enhanced the FPGA architecture to give both interfaces microphone modelling capability. This means that, with the help of the Accusonic engine, you can choose from a collection of classic, professional microphones. As its name suggests, the Discrete 4 has four analogue inputs while the Discrete 8 has eight as well as S/PDIF, ADAT, Wordclock inputs and outputs and of course, Antelope's renowned clocking functionality. Edge & Verge modeller mics and bundlesAs well as the bundles Discrete 8 + Edge & Verge and Discrete 4 + Edge, both microphones are also expected to hit the shelves. The Edge mic is a multi-pattern large-diaphragm mic while the Verge is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone which is especially suitable for instruments. These bundles also include the Premium AFX package, which enables you to load a maximum number onboard effects (AFX), sixteen to be exact, in your DAW software. For the individual interfaces, the maximum is two, but the maximum amount can be upgraded for a reasonable price. We'll keep you posted on that!
