General

This universal USB/MIDI controller gives you precision control over your DAW, is suited for instruments, effects and lighting systems and is outfitted with 9 touch-sensitive faders, 16 rotary knobs with LED rings, and 39 illuminated buttons. Put away your mouse and keyboard and make room for the Behringer X-Touch Compact.

Behringer X-Touch Compact: Universal Control

Modern music sequencers and software are designed to be controlled by an extreme controller that can give you better, more detailed oversight of your DAW for more intuitive and immediate control. Where you used to have to use your mouse to switch screens and adjust values, now you can just use a fader or button. Thanks to the different layers this controller uses, you can also control multiple DAWs or instruments simultaneously. Furthermore, you can fully adjust the controller to suit your own needs and preferences, thanks to the user-friendly editor, which can be downloaded for free from Behringer's website.

Lighting on the X-Touch Compact

All of the buttons on the X-Touch Compact are LED-backlit so you can quickly and easily control your DAW and maintain a clear, organised overview of what's going on. The rotary knobs feature LED rings to clearly indicate the state of a given parameter and a built-in USB hub makes it possible to connect 2 additional controllers, USB sticks or instruments. There's also a MIDI interface with two inputs and outputs.

Behringer X-Touch Compact DAW Controller
Wrote the following about Behringer X-Touch Compact DAW Controller
I bought the X-Touch Compact for use with "Cakewalk by BandLab" (formerly Sonar) and connected using 'Mackie' control surface protocol. No driver software required, you just connect and then enable it in your DAW.

I can use rotary 16 [Track] to change which 8-tracks are being controlled and the rotaries, buttons & faders snap instantly to the correct the settings for each track when you do this. It makes working with a large multi-track project very easy. Also found that clicking rotaries 9-14 changes the purposes of the strip rotaries 1-8.

It looses one-star because the included documentation is extremely basic. The functions of the strip controls and transport controls are obvious but you need to experiment with clicking & twiddling to find out what some of the other controls (particularly rotaries 9-16) do in your DAW.

Great device but poor documentation.

Great control of plugins eq and fader control set aside the mouse allows you to focus on making music.

Even better when you cascade xtouch with the xtouch compact giving more fader control works well with cubase after the latest firmware update.
