If you're a musician or producer, you know inspiration can come and go, which is why it's crucial to get your ideas down as quickly and easily as possible. A computer is a great way to do that, but often times, an instrument is necessary to really get your creative juices flowing. The Ableton Push 2 is the ideal combination of the two—it's an interface that connects to your computer but functions as an instrument. Besides loading in the sounds directly from the Ableton Live 9 DAW software, the Push 2 also functions as a MIDI controller so you can use external modules or plugins for an even more diverse and truly unique result.
Step sequencer and editor
Using the 64 velocity-sensitive pads, you can quickly lay down a groove without losing your inspirational flow. After you've recorded an idea, you can edit it in real time with the pads, which can be pre-programmed to the diatonic or chromatic scale for playing melodies, or used to create beats. You can split your parts up or change their order, or manipulate your samples so they sync perfectly with your composition. The possibilities are endless! When it comes to composing, there is no other tool like it. The Push 2 is built for the future!
Navigation and other functions
Use the integrated browser to scroll intuitively through your sample library, VSTs, Audio Unit plugins, or other devices that have been integrated into the Ableton live. Select your favourite samples and you're good to go! The colour screen shows which sample is in use and which parameters can be adjusted. Mixing is also done intuitively—levels, pans, and encoders are shown directly when you turn the rotary knobs. With the Push, you're all set, whether you're at home, in the studio, or on stage. Its user-friendly interface allows you all the expressive freedom you need to improvise with loops, chords, and notes!

Top aankoop, geen spijt van.
Mijn creativiteit heeft hierdoor een flinke boost gekregen!
Het duurt een tijdje voordat je de belangrijkste functies geleerd heb, maar als je dat eenmaal weet dan is Push 2 een heerlijke controller om mee te werken. Zeker ook omdat je devices en effecten kunt besturen/ aanpassen in Push 2 (met behulp van het scherpe kleurenscherm).
Push 2 is volledig afgestemd op Ableton Live, d.w.z. dat de controller minder geschikt is om andere DAW's mee aan te sturen (zover ik weet)..
De prijs is hoog, vergeleken met andere control-pads maar de mogelijkheden zijn eindeloos (met Live) en de kwaliteit van het apparaat is zeer goed. Het voelt zwaar en stevig aan en knoppen draaien met een licht verzet ( i.p.v. dat ze los aanvoelen).
Al met al een dikke aanrader voor creatieve geesten die Ableton Live gebruiken en zich willen focussen op het creatieve gedeelte van muziek maken en minder willen klikken in het programma terwijl ze kijken naar het scherm.
De constructie is erg stevig, maar de knobs en pads voelen zeer smooth aan, net zoals de ribbon controller. Het schermpje is zeer handing en een grote stap vooruit in vergelijking met de push1. Hoewel het een instrument is met zeer uitgebreide mogelijkheden (en navenante handleiding), is het toch vrij intuitief om er mee te werken. Ik heb een paar andere pad controllers geprobeerd, en hoewel de push wel veruit de duurste is, is die toch de meerprijs waard.
Eén bedenking wel: de push is niet happig om samen te werken met andere controllers. Ik heb wat moeten googlen om de juiste USB hub te vinden om de push te laten samen werken met de andere controllers.
Eerlijk is eerlijk, de eerste paar uur zal je waarschijnlijk even puzzelen waar alles zit. En op ableton.com vind je tal van tutorials over de mogelijkheden met deze controller. Daarna zal je er van staan te kijken hoe snel je door de software beweegt met Push 2 – zelfs als je Live al behoorlijk in de vingers hebt. Geen twijfel, gewoon doen!
Het mooie is dat Push je hiermee uitnodigt tot spelen. Waar je met alleen muis en toetsenbord doelgerichter te werk zult gaan, is het met Push ontzettend eenvoudig om te experimenteren – van nieuwe patronen op de pads tot een flinke zwieper aan één van de encoders om te zien wat het effect is.
Push 2 maakt Live echt leuker.
De buttons zijn zo gevoelig en dat kan je nog instellen ook. De graphics op het scherm voor effecten, midi enz. zijn echt knap. Dat de kleuren op de grid mee veranderen met de gekozen kleur van je track, spoor is echt wel een serieuze sprong vooruit.
Met Push 2 is de indeling van de knoppen ook wel verbeterd.
Echt een aanrader voor de hobby of semi-pro producer.
Wat ik wel aanraad is een stofkap of case te voorzien.
