General

Ask a true key player, and the name Triton will certainly still ring a bell. Korg introduced the workstation in 1999 and has kept on developing it ever since. Numerous hit songs have been produced using the sounds of the Triton. This Korg Triton taktile-25 is a fascinating combination of the streamlined Triton sound engine and a full-blown USB MIDI controller, equipped with 25 full-size keys. The semi-weighted keyboard has been borrowed from the Korg Krome and offers a high level of comfort and expression while you're playing.

Triton on board

The Korg taktile is more than just a basic MIDI controller and features 512 programs that are all highly useable, from bread and butter sounds to synth leads and pads. An audio output allows you to transmit the sounds to your mixer or speakers, and the Triton taktile-25 can even be used as a sound module via USB. In addition to its keyboard, the Korg controller enables you to musically express yourself by means of eight velocity-sensitive trigger pads and a centrally located X/Y touchpad that functions along the same lines as the Kaossilator. Complex rhythmic, melodic and harmonic lines can be dynamically created on-the-fly. The Triton taktile is an especially powerful partner for pattern-based DAWs like Ableton.

Practical functions

The Korg Triton taktile-25 offers plenty of great functions. A built-in arpeggiator provides you with 50 rhythmic patterns - a particularly powerful feature in combination with a software synthesizer. The eight faders offer hands-on mixing options, and the workflow of the Triton taktile is quite streamlined, as the Touch Pad Mode enables you to work without a separate computer mouse. In that case, the XY pad functions as a cursor, while the ribbon selector takes over the function of the mouse buttons. As the Triton taktile-25 is powered via USB and very compact in size, the controller is exceptionally convenient for modern producers who'd also like to be able to work while they're on the road.

Uiteraard weer razend snel geleverd.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

NAMM 2016: Back to the '80s with Electro Harmonix

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
