The Rycote 18cm Super Softie 19/22 3D-Tex windshield for shotgun microphones is not re-inventing the wheel. Thanks to its 3D-Tex material, however, it puts an end to those furry blimps once and for all! This material has a clear cell structure that doesn't look like much, but looks can be deceiving!
The practical advantages of 3D-Tex
The specific cell structure of the Super Softie enhances the audio, especially in the lower frequencies and allowsing for a very transparent sound. The practical aspect of this windshield is where its strength lies, though. Seeing as journalists often have to work in adverse weather conditions, the Super Sofite was designed to function under those conditions as well. If it should get wet, for example, you can easily squeeze it dry. Dirty? That's just as easy - slide the Super Softie off the mic, rinse off the dirt, squeeze it dry, and slide it right back on.
