The sE Electronics X1 is a handcrafted condenser microphone of exceptional quality that comes with an attractive price tag. It is the equal of many a (more expensive) competitor and can be used universally for a variety of tasts from recording vocals and instruments to entire ensembles. In the sE Electronics X1 Vocal Pack, this large-diaphragm studio microphone is bundled with a shockmount, metal pop filter and an XLR cable. That way you can get recording in your studio in high quality right away!
Technical details of the X1 studio microphone
The sE Electronics X1 provides a warm and dynamic sound and has a frequency range of 20 to 20,000 Hz, which ensures that everything is picked up in high detail. The gold sputtered capsule has a diameter of 1 inch and is hand-made to guarantee quality. Thanks to its cardioid pickup pattern, you can perfectly aim the microphone to the sound source and use it for live applications.
X1 Vocal Pack: shockmount, pop filter and cable
Furthermore, the X1 Vocal Pack contains a high-grade shockmount with metal pop filter and a 3m long XLR cable. This shockmount reduces vibrations that are caused by footsteps, shocks or handling of the stand. The pop filter is highly durable thanks to the metal construction and it reduces unwanted popping and wind noises without being detrimental to the character of the sound source.

+ Helder/zuiver en professioneel geluid.
+ Low-cut schakelaar is erg prettig.
+ Weinig achtergrond pickup (bij juiste studio-setting).
+ Popfilter is in orde voor deze microfoon (stoffen popfilter zorgt voor doffe pickup).
Minpunten
- Te scherpe 'S'-klank (verschillende stemmen getest met verschillende geluidskaarten en DAWs).
- Shockmount doet goedkoop aan (er zijn betere voor de X1).

Sommige mensen hier noemen hem neutraal, maar dat is hij zeker niet. Dat kan ook niet voor deze prijs.
De X1 is het sterkst in het midgebied (zeer geschikt voor vocalen dus), laag is een beetje rommelig en hoog is een klein beetje too much. Maar een laag-afje en wat compressie maken het al snel een stuk beter!
Overigens heeft hij weinig gain nodig, wat een pluspunt is.
Naast vocalen heb ik 2 van deze mics als overheads gebruikt, met verassende resultaten! Acoustisch gitaar is ook goed te doen. Ik verwacht op blazers ook resultaten te kunnen boeken met deze mics.
De X1 komt het beste tot zijn recht met een mooie preamp. Hier gebruik ik zelf de ART pro MPA II voor, heerlijk! Aanrader: Impedantie rond de 300-400 ohm. De X1 komt tot leven!
De shockmount die erbij werd geleverd viel me een beetje tegen. Teveel plastic. Het voelt aan alsof hij makkelijk te breken is. Maargoed, als je er voorzichtig mee omgaat moet het geen probleem zijn. Daarnaast kreeg ik hem er dankzij een kortingsactie gratis bij, niets te klagen!
Het popfilter doet verder wat hij moet doen, niets speciaals.
In ieder geval, zijn geld waard? Zeker! Zou ik hem weer kopen bij verlies? Waarschijnlijk wel.
Over de service van Bax hoeft eigenlijk niets gezegd te worden. Top zoals altijd!

Vergeet niet eventueel een koppelstukje erbij te bestellen als je er nog een microfoonstandaard bij koopt om aan de shockmount te bevestigen. Het schroefdraad past niet altijd op elkaar en je hebt dan een verloopstukje nodig voor een paar euro. Anders moet je die weer apart bestellen zoals bij mij.
De mic zelf klinkt helder en realistisch, beetje laag rond 10-20 khz (voor mij stem in ieder geval) maar niks dat je niet kunt recht zetten met de FabFilter EQ. Popfilter en shockmount ook sweet.
