General

Aston is making quite a name for themselves in the world of high-end microphones, as evidenced by the Spirit: their award-winning, large-diaphragm condenser mic. This studio microphone has a switch for selecting omnidirectional, cardioid, or a figure-eight pickup pattern and features high-end, hand-picked components and transformers that are designed to produce the highest possible audio quality with the most accurate results. The Spirit is designed for vocals and (acoustic) guitars in particular, but can also be plugged in to capture drums and other dynamic instruments.

Transparent, Open Sound

Aston designed the Spirit with an open, transparent sound in mind. Every detail in the higher registers is captured without adding any of the unwanted hardness that a lot of condenser mics tend to. The unique exterior design also contributes to an accurate representation of the audio source, while the wave-form mesh head and built-in pop filter help prevent ambient sound and plosives from being picked up while protecting the microphone from electromagnetic interference. The stainless-steel mesh grille surrounds the microphone head in its entirety and can be removed for cleaning.

Unique Die-Cast Ends

The die-cast ends where the XLR connector and stand flange sit are also rather unique twists. The Spirit can be mounted directly on a microphone stand since it has a highly effective built-in shock mount, which is pretty uncommon for studio mikes. Furthermore, this thorough design is especially practical when it comes to repairs and maintenance. Also, the Spirit's chassis has been machine-tumbled for up to four hours to achieve the same deluxe industrial look as other Aston-made microphones.
