Gregorian choir chants are instantly recognisable - no wonder these dissociating, cool Latin vocals are often used to set the mood in games and films. With Cantus Gregorian Chants, Best Service offers a virtual monk ensemble. Sixty minutes of music (6,000 samples, 2.8 GB) provide you with all the building blocks you need for your own Gregorian compositions. Five different legato vowels (a, e, i, o, u) in true Gregorian style are at your disposal, complemented by a special Mmmh articulation. Additionally, you get a collection of twenty recorded Gregorian chants, divided into 400 phrases. Thanks to the outstanding realism of this virtual instrument, you'll imagine yourself in an ancient monastery.

Cantus features a built-in word builder. Based on Latin, it offers 24 words, with three articulations each (staccato, fast and slow). In the blink of an eye, you'll be able to build complete sentences for custom-made liturgical chants. Thanks to the legato options, you won't have to worry about awkward-sounding transitions - the corresponding vowel is automatically selected. Also included in the package are 19 soundscapes, created from choir samples, and the latest version of Native Instruments Kontakt Player, for optimal performance in a DAW of your choice.
Cantus: the making-of
Eduardo Tarilonte - the renowned producer of vocal packages - set out to find an authentic Gregorian choir. Eventually, he selected the Schola Gregoriana Hispana, an ensemble with over 25 years of experience under their belts. Cantus offers 'dry' recordings, leaving it up to you to choose an appropriate reverb. Eight Neumann microphones were used to record the samples, which were then carefully mixed to provide that typical Gregorian choir sound. With this software plugin, Tarilonte wanted to make you feel "the cold breath from the mouth of the monks singing in those cold monasteries", and if you ask us, he has succeeded beautifully. A great asset for game and film score producers!
