General
The Onyx 6 is the smallest passive speaker in Devine's Onyx Series. This 6-inch satellite speaker boasts an 80-Watt RMS power capacity and has an impressive SPL of 108 dB and a peak power of 320 Watts. It's equipped with a 6.5-inch woofer and 1-inch compression driver and, despite its modest size, the Onyx 6 delivers detail-rich audio that does justice to any sort of music you play through it.
The Devine Onyx 6: A Wee Powerhouse
Despite its modest size, the Devine Onyx 6 delivers the same solid and detailed sound as the other Onyx Series speakers. It's easily able to handle any style you throw at it, be it modern EDM or old-school rock.
The Devine Onyx 12SA Active Subwoofer
The Devine Onyx 12SA is an active, compact subwoofer engineered to add fat dose of low-end to your sound system. Outfitted with a 12" woofer, this bold bass bin boasts a 450W RMS power capacity and various connection options. The latter includes balanced stereo XLR line inputs for hooking up a mixer, XLR link outputs for sending an unfiltered signal to a second sub or full-range speaker with plenty of low, and regular XLR outputs for connecting full-range active speakers or an amplifier to cover the mid-high range.
Compact Active Subwoofer
Next to the aforementioned inputs and outputs, you'll find various switches for further sound-tweaking on the back of the Onyx 12SA. The crossover switch toggles between 80 and 120 Hz and accommodates use in combination with either smaller speakers or larger full-range loudspeakers, while the Sub Level pot is used to dial in the volume and comes accompanied by a Phase, a Shape and a practical ground-lift switch. Finally, in terms of safety, it's nice to know that Devine have equipped the Onyx 12SA with overload, overheat and RMS protection circuits.

Staat stabiel op de sub en de top staat er netjes op.
Houd er rekening mee dat er plastic onderdelen aan zitten, maar als je er niet te zware speakers op staan, en je gaat er netjes mee om, dan gaat deze jaren mee.
Compact echter toch wat gewicht dus dat voelde al meteen goed aan. Fijne (weg gewerkte) handgrepen dus transport is eenvoudig en goed te doen.
De speaker zelf zonder muziek is stil, ventilator ook. Geen brom of zoem of 'contact' geluiden.
Bij de eerste muziek en bas tonen (zacht volume) had ik meteen al zo iets van 'zo dan!' en dat van 12 inch!
Volume is makkelijk te regelen en ook de knop om tot een bepaald aantal Hz op het 'laag' te houden werkt prima. Voor het mid/hoog kun je kiezen voor een ongefilterd of gefilterd signaal. Dat werkt ook prima en ook op een wat hoger volume heeft de kast geen resonanties of bijgeluiden en blijft redelijk strak. (Ik test altijd met muziek van b.v. Toto dus hoe de kast zich houdt met andere soorten muziek moet ik nog ervaren). Ik heb nog een tweede bijbesteld zodat ik nu een complete set heb en voor de totaalprijs denk ik dat je bijna geen goedkopere / krachtigere set kunt krijgen zeker qua gewicht en omvang. Om de tops aan te sturen gebruik ik een Behringer amp van rond de 350 watt.
Hoe de baskasten (en klank) zich op lange afstand ontwikkeld, dat weet ik nog niet maar het is méér dan genoeg voor een middelgrote ruimte. Het blijft 12 inch dus verwacht niet echt wapperende broekspijpen maar voor een compacte baskast voeldoet hij voor mij prima.
