General

"Professional field recording has never been more accessible." This is the slogan that Zoom used to launch their F4 field recorder. And, they're right! The F4 is compact, accessible, practical and above all, professional. Thanks to current technology, the possibilities are practically unlimited. Nowadays, it's relatively easy to get excellent quality audio on location and add it to your film production. Gone are the days when this type of thing was only possible for people with tons of money! The Zoom F4 MutliTrack recorder makes filmmakers' dreams come true.

Hollywood standard accessible to everyone!

The Zoom F4 offers 6 inputs in total, 4 of which have high-quality microphone preamps, and 4 outputs. The mic preamps consist of XLR/jack combo connectors and offer extremely low noise and distortion levels. They also deliver an impressive 75 dB of gain and the line levels possess +4 dB of boost. The TCXO (Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator) generates a time code that is transmitted during recording and playback, giving you that Hollywood-quality sound and accuracy. Advanced limiters offer protection against peaks and clipping to provide as wide an audio range as possible in a dynamic sound environment.

Additional mic and line inputs and outputs

Zoom's F4 is equipped with a connector to add two additional microphone inputs in the form of a separately-available EXH-6 XLR/TRS capsule. This brings the total number of inputs on the F4 up to six. Besides the headphone output jack, the F4 also offers two headphone outputs and two sub outputs to connect your camera. Finally, you'll find BNC connectors for the time code and a USB port for receiving firmware updates or data. This port also comes in handy when using the F4 as an external audio interface with sample rates of 96 kHz.

Zoom F4 multi-track field recorder
Wrote the following about Zoom F4 multi-track field recorder
