General
The Fireface UC by RME is, as you might not expect, a 192kHz USB audio interface, based on the latest RME Hammerfall core technology. It features extra-low latency, even if you use multiple channels simultaneously.
It has a total of eight inputs and outputs, all of which are balanced, apart from output 7/8. Two XLR and two jack inputs are at the front of the device. Furthermore it features a MIDI, SPDIF, ADAT and Wordclock I/O, as well as a stereo headphone output.
This audio interface also has two balanced, combined Neutrik jack/XLR inputs at the front, which are fitted with a preamp. Both inputs feature a 48V phantom power supply.
The Fireface UC has an integrated DSP mixer, which allows you to create up to nine independent stereo submixes. TotalMix software is freely included with every RME audio interface.
Thanks to its compact exterior of 9.5 inches, it's not just usable in the studio - it's also ideal for use on stage.

Hoge geluidskwaliteit en stabiele drivers.
De totalmix software is helaas een beetje onduidelijk en omslachtig, daar moet je echt even induiken.
Wat ik echt niet begrijp is dat deze kaart niet bus powered is.. De ingang voor je adapter plug is erg shaky en het is mij al vaker voorgekomen dat deze plug er gewoon uit is gevallen tijdens optredens, al dan niet door het per ongeluk verplaatsen/ bewegen van de kabel of door bas trillingen in de booth.. Dit is natuurlijk compleet belachelijk, je geeft bijna 900 euro uit voor een stabiele interface en dan moet ik alsnog de hele tijd zorgen maken om het feit dat de power kabel er elk moment uit kan floepen. De "oplossing" die ik nu hiervoor gebruik is gewoon de plug bij elk optreden helemaal vast tapen met ductape. Wel laat dit lelijke lijmresten achter op de interface zelf en is eigenlijk natuurlijk helemaal geen echte langdurige oplossing.
Als je deze interface dus gewoon lekker veilig in je studio laat staan, helemaal prima. maar voor meenemen on tour niet optimaal.
Superieure geluids qualiteid en super stabile drivers. In combinatie met een Thinkpad P1 echt een aanrader dus!!!

Bij het indienen van mijn eerste uitgebreide review kreeg ik helaas een foutmelding op de website. Hierbij nogmaals even heel kort samengevat.
Mijn plus- en minpuntjes:
+ lage latency
+ USB2.0. (USB2.0 is snel genoeg voor de data die heen en weer moet gaan). Makkelijk aan te sluiten. Geen storing met andere USB apparaten zoals mijn muis, midi controllers, telefoon, externe harde schijf, etc..
+ In- / uitgschakelen geluidskaart of computer zonder dat je je luidsprekers kapot maakt (geen luide plops zoals bij PCI kaarten).
+ drivers (draait bv ook onder Windows 8.1 64bit)
+ uitgebreide mogelijkheden TotalFX Mix. O.a. Loopback functie, snapshots, OSC, etc.
+ Draaiknop voorkant voor het snel wijzigen van volume koptelefoon of andere kanalen.
+ pre-amps voor microfoon. Handig om onderweg ook wat op te nemen in repetitieruimte of wat dan ook samen met een laptop.
+ 2x midi in/uit
Klein minpuntje:
- input op de Fireface voor het midi adapter kabeltje mag een beetje verbeterd worden. Bij lange en dus zwaardere midi kabels trekken deze aan de aansluiting. Alhoewel deze niet vastklikt zal hij volgens mij niet slijten of stukgaan hierdoor.
De preamps zijn ok, maar als je apparatuur van dit niveau koopt, wordt er meestal vanuitgegaan dat je wel wat preamps hebt staan.
