Focusrite hit a real bull's eye with their Scarlett series audio interfaces. This is the best selling audio interface in the world, and it's really no wonder. It's simple yet powerful, with an elegant design, intuitive ease of use, and low latency: a fail-proof formula for success! You'll find that this second generation, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 ticks even more boxes than the previous. While offering improved preamps and converters and a headphone input with gain control, you get newly designed inputs for your instruments, so you can make studio-quality recordings of your high-output instruments like guitars, without distortion.
Improved in every aspect
The second-generation Scarlett will surprise you. For starters, you'll notice right away that the gain knob has been redesigned to fit in better with the industrial look of the device. Focusrite have also managed to make the latency even lower, meaning that you can record in real time without having to deal with delays. The preamps have been redesigned too, and you can adjust the gain in more detail to ensure everything is in balance. You can now even record at up to 24 bit, 192 kHz! Finally, analogue circuit protection has been applied to the inputs and outputs to protect the Scarlett against power surges and cuts. The two 6.3 mm TRS jack outputs mean you can connect it up to your studio monitors with no problems.
Compact and powered by USB
Thanks to the compact housing, you can take this interface anywhere, meaning if you have a laptop with enough juice, you can record anywhere. You don't need an external power source since the Scarlett is fully USB powered and can be plugged straight into your laptop. The device comes with plenty of software, including an exclusive version of Pro Tools, and the Focusrite Creative Pack, which comes with no fewer than 12 plugins including Eleven lite. Also included are Ableton Live Lite, a Softube Time & Tone Bundle, the Red Plugin Suite, and no less than 2 GB of Loopmaster samples. All of this means that the 2nd Gen is another winner!
Tips or comments about this product- Please note: to use this interface with Windows, you need to install a driver. This is not necessary for use with Mac OSX, as the Scarlett 2i2 is class compliant with Mac.
- In order to install Pro Tools, activate Scarlett first. Then, download the Pro Tools software, install and register with the included code.

I also record vocals, nothing special and certainly not me singing, and the clarity is wonderful to hear. You can sample upto 192khz, but 48khz is good enough. Plus it comes with 48v Phantom power for condenser mics.
I'm very pleased with my purchase.
