General
The Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 is an audio interface with 18 inputs and 8 outputs. It is equipped with 4 newly designed preamplifiers that delivery more gain with a more neutral response. You have the option to use an ADAT to expand the interface to have a maximum of 8 analogue inputs. Other connectors include balanced outputs and two headphones inputs.
Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 2nd Gen: Compact all-rounder
If you're a musician, producer, or a member of a small band, then the Focusrite Scarlett is a great choice. You can use it to record audio from different sources, like drums, guitar, keyboard or vocals. Because the latency is so much lower than that of the previous model, you'll also find that real-time recording is easy as pie. You won't have to deal with delays, and the response is direct and natural. The combined XLR/jack inputs have also been improved to be able to take on more gain, and the newly designed preamps are more compatible with higher output signals from instruments.
Digital connectors and more
You'll also find S/SPDIF and ADAT digital inputs and outputs on the 18i8. This means you can expand your interface by connecting, say, a preamplifier with 12 microphone inputs and 16 analogue inputs. Doing something like that would certainly open up your options. Furthermore, you'll find a MIDI input/output as well so you can connect your MIDI controllers and instruments. The audio interface comes with a rich assortment of recording software and audio plugins so you can get started right away with Focusrite Control putting you firmly in charge. An exclusive version of Pro Tools and Focusrite's own Creative Pack with 12 plugins including Eleven Lite are only a couple of examples of the goodies in store.
Tips or comments about this product- Please note: to use this interface with Windows, you need to install a driver. This is not necessary for use with Mac OS X, as the Scarlett 18i8 Studio is class compliant with Mac.

Nu toch een 18i8 gekocht maar, het vreemde is dat hij 18 externe ingangen en 8 interen voor de computer. Echter de mixer heeft software matig maar 18 ingangen dus als je je computer wil mixen naar je speakers kun je nog maar 16 kanalen mixen. Gebruik je alle 8 computer kanalen dan kun je dus maar 10 ingangen mixen. Volstrek onacceptabel. Geverifieerd met de leverancier maar doet of dit heel normaal is . Verder kun je de microfoon alleen link of recht direct monitoren en niet mono. Daar heb je dus niet aan op je koptelefoon. En kun je de uitgang van de mixer niet naar je computer routen
De software interface is verandert en nu erg minimalistisch. Ik vind het niets.
Ingang 5678 kunnen niet fysiek getrimd worden en de software heeft hiervoor ook onvoldoende mogelijkheden om een keyboard op niveau te krijgen.
De uitgang is naar mijn mening ook te zacht en clipt snel. Jammer dat ik niet genoeg geld had om iets beters te kopen. Klinkt best goed dat wel, maar verder eigenlijk ook die ene ster niet waard.
De service van Bax was uiteraard ook top!
A ce prix, faut pas chercher plus loin, surtout avec les 4 entrées combo et les 2 sorties casques en façade, que du bonheur !
Pre-amps zijn heerlijk en het systeem voelt lekker aan om mee te werken.
Uitstekende service van Bax.
Wel valt op dat de hoofdtelefoon-uitgangen wat moeite hebben met de aansturing van hoog-impedante hoofdtelefoons. Met de volumeknop op 3 uur krijg ik pas een lekker volume, dus dan zit er niet veel reserve meer in.
Ook zijn de lijningangen beduidend zachter dan wat er uit mijn DAW komt, dus om hardware synthesizers ongeveer even hard te horen als software synths, moet je behoorlijk verschillende volumes in de softwaremixer instellen. Vreemd.
Desalniettemin, voor de homestudio of opname op locatie, een fijne en compacte interface.
