General

If you want to start producing music using nothing but your computer, some good software, and a microphone, then the ESI U22 XT USB audio interface will set you up with the core of your new studio. Providing fledgling producers with a decent yet affordable start, this USB 2.0 interface plays the role of more standard sound cards, raising the audio quality and setting you up with a solid analogue to digital bridge. The neat and complete U22 XT boasts a 24 bit, 96kHz audio resolution.

The ESI U22 XT Audio Interface

In terms of connection options, the single combo input can be used to plug in both jack-fitted and XLR fitted microphones. Active condenser microphones as well as dynamic microphones are supported since phantom power comes built-in, while the dedicated Hi-Z input can handle line-level instruments, including electric guitars. Hook up your computer via USB, plug in a set of headphones and even some monitor speakers via the RCA or jack ports found on the rear, and you're fully set up.

Bitwig 8-Track

Besides a license for Deckadance LE, ESI have generously thrown in a free copy of Bitwig 8-Track, doubling your investment and completing the production pack. This entry-level DAW gives you everything you need to start producing straight away, so all you need to add is your computer and you have your own home studio. While Bitwig 8-Track is a slimmed down version of Bitwig Studio, you get a streamlined interface and all of the essential tools needed to start shaping your first project and get to grips with the tricks of the trade.

ESI U22 XT USB Audio Interface
Wrote the following about ESI U22 XT USB Audio Interface
Ever since my laptop started going slow and my scarlet 2i2 was ruined in a botched potmeter repair, I've been saving patiently to build a new PC and grab a new card to get back in gear and start making tunes again. Working with a tight budget and fearing another RMA nightmare with Focusrite's faulty potmeters I went with the ESI.

It has a similar sturdy build and the pots have good action. It doesn't have two full xlr/line combis like the 2i2 but I can see the stereo inputs on the back having some use if any of you readers are vinyl sampling types. Also you get to keep the extra 40 euro in price difference for some good beers. The drivers worked fine and my test recordings are sounding satisfactory. Another plus is being able to run ASIO in DAW while simultaneously playing other computer audio (bye asio4all) which is good if you're trying maybe to follow youtube tutorials in real time.

BUT! This is where I knock a star off. If you are trying to run anything more than a 44100 sample rate in DAW, any other audio from the computer will make the interface glitch out until it has been reset. Something to keep in mind. Overall a good budget interface.

NAMM 2016: IK Multimedia's iKlip A/V - Top Sound Quality on Your Smartphone

Thursday 7 January 2016 By Richard | Bax Music

These days, films can be recorded entirely on smartphones, and some YouTubers are more famous than television presenters. The gap between professionals and amateurs is becoming smaller. Cameras on today's smartphones offer excellent image quality that is getting harder and harder to distinguish from 'the real thing'. Sound quality on smartphones, on the other hand, is an area that is still in need of some improvement. That's where the iKlip A/V from IK Multimedia comes in. It's a broadcast mount with an integrated microphone preamp that will add professional-quality sound to your smartphone footage.
