General

Behringer's X32 digital mixer has enjoyed a lot of success since it came out. The 32-channel mixer was designed with universal use in mind, and as such has a number of different connection possibilities. In order to ensure that the mixer is suited for any studio or live situation, Behringer has designed a number of different expansion cards. Once such card is the Behringer X-MADI Expansion Card, which offers an impressive 32 digital I/O channels via MADI.

X-MADI: MADI protocol

Via MADI, it's possible to use one cable for up to 64 audio channels. This can be done from an impressive distance with unparalleled low latency; in fact, with a multi-mode optical cable, it can go up to two kilometres! It's for this reason that you'll see MADI being used in large studios with central server rooms, and in live and broadcasting situations. The German RME Audio has a large assortment of MADI products, including computer sound cards.

The uTrack24 Madi Module was specifically designed for - you guessed it - the uTrack24. The uTrack-X32, on the other hand, was developed for the familiar Behringer X32 and the Midas M32 consoles.
