General

The secret behind great guitar track recordings is doubling. Metallica often thicken up riffs by laying down a further three layers and most of the solos recorded by Randy Rhoads are compiled of three layers to result in gigantic sound. The TC Electronic Mimiq Mini Doubler effects pedal literally double or triples your guitar, giving it the full and potentially massive body of recorded, overdubbed sound, on stage.

The Mimiq Doubler: (More Than) Double the Pleasure

Creating a big guitar sound with the Mimiq Doubler is a much simpler affair than recording endless overdubs. A three-way switch adds 1, 2 or 3 dubs while Effect and Dry pots manage the volume level of the original signal and its clone(s). The Tightness pot determines how slack or tight the dubbed layers sound and, since this pedal is fitted with stereo inputs and outputs, it can be hooked up for optimal, noise-free sound via the true-bypass circuit. Nevermore shall your riffs, licks or intricate picking sound either dull or small through the TC Electronic Mimiq Doubler!

I watched a few YouTube reviews and almost did not proceed with a purchase. However one or two of these reviews made the point that you really had to use two amps for the best results and the results shown were good to my ears. Luckily I normally do use two. Due to Covid I have done most of my recent playing in my study/music room and so have only tried the unit with my practice amp and the reviews are correct the effect is not brilliant with only one amp and so I am really pleased that I did not buy the cheaper mini version! When I use my twin amp rig I am sure that the sound I get is what I want. The other thing to mention is that TC are correct in stating that the unit does not add any gain which, depending on how you want to use it is either a good or a bad thing.

This is a good product for the money. However, since I also own a Strymon Deco, I can compare the two. I was hoping It would approach the Deco (I have 2 rigs) but it doesn’t. My advice would be to spend the 4x more on the Deco because that pedal is simply amazing. The Mimiq does a passable job of thickening up the sound but it does not sound like ADT in the way the Deco does. At greater thickness settings it sounds like a v fast slap back reverb. Most of the online YouTube videos are a reasonable representation of the pedal’s rather limited capabilities. But do yourself a favour and buy a Deco instead. It is worth 4 times the price.

Zoals hieronder... alleen in stereo interessant.
