General
Yamaha's FS guitars have a more compact body and a bright, balanced tone without too much bass. Its dynamic, sparkling sound is partially due to the solid spruce top and newly-designed scalloped bracing so the top can resonate more freely for an extra-rich sound. The wood types used in the body, the nato neck and rosewood fretboard and bridge add a dose of warmth and creaminess to the overall tone of this FS-TA guitar. What really sets the TransAcoustic apart from the original FS range is its built-uiin reverb and chorus. You don't even need to amplify this steel-string guitar to hear these effects while playing!

Under the bonnet of this Yamaha FS-TA, there's am actuator that vibrates along with the strings as you play to create the chorus and reverb effects, regardless of the guitar is amplified or not. Using the controls on the side, you can determine how spacious you want your FS concert flat top to sound. Access the TransAcoustic system by holding down the volume control and use the first two controls to tweak your sound or mix in the effects. When you want to amplify your favourite effect setting, that's where the System70 preamp comes in. Finally, when the AA batteries need replacing, you'll find the compartment behind the back strap button, which also functions as a mono jack output for your instrument cable.

De ingebouwde versterker is wat deze gitaar van ieder andere onderscheidt. Wat een mogelijkheden... Je kan deze gitaar laten klinken alsof ze je een gitaar van een veel hogere prijscategorie in handen hebt, door een beetje effect toe te voegen. Je kan daar natuurlijk ook mee overdrijven, smaken verschillen. Handig is wel dat je door de chorus open te draaien, de klank krijgt van een 12-string.
De gitaar met effecten aan klinkt iets luider, wat leuk is tijdens 'akoestische optredens'. De basklanken komen bij meer galm-effect luider door, de klank is hierdoor onmiskenbaar voller.
Wat ik jammer vind aan de gitaar, wat ik echt mis, is een 'ledlampje' om te zien of je ingebouwde effecten aanstaan of niet. Want als je eventjes niet speelt (minder dan 10 seconden), schakelen de effecten zichzelf uit. Jawel. Niet leuk tijdens een optreden.
Ik raad je ook oplaadbare batterijen aan, want na 12 tot 24 uren spelen (met effecten aan) gaan de batterijen bijna op zijn. Het is een enorm mankement dat er geen indicatie is om te checken of je batterijen nog voldoende gevuld zijn. Dit kan echt vervelend zijn tijdens een optreden, als je net die chorus of galm wil toevoegen.
Dus samengevat; deze gitaar met de verborgen, ingebouwde effecten, is echt wel een zalig instrument. Jammer is alleen dat je niet weet of die effecten 'aanstaan' bij optredens, en dat je niet weet of het aan de aan/uit schakelaar ligt, of aan de batterijen.
NB Deze gitaar heb ik in een muziekwinkel in België 100,- goedkoper gekocht, en met een koffer erbij.
