Setting up finger-picking guitarists with the sparkling definition and snug comfort of a compact parlor body, the Lag Guitars Tramontane 177 T177PE electro-acoustic guitar has been finished with a solid Engelmann spruce soundboard and a khaya back and sides, shaping outstanding projection and excellent dynamic response. Other salient details include the extra-wide 46mm nut that broadens the string spacing and improved playing comfort and accuracy - especially when finger picking. Meanwhile, the built-in Stage Lâg preamp system and tuner lends the full support of rich amplified sound whether on stage or in the studio.

Deze LAG Tramontane 177 T177PE is een parlor d.w.z. de kleinste formaat staalsnarige gitaar met nog wel een normale mensuur. Het is een zgn. 12-frets-type d.w.z. dat de hals bij de octaafpositie aansluit op de klankkast. Nadeel daarvan is dat de hogere posities iets moeilijker te bereiken zijn, voordeel is dat de klankkast iets groter kan zijn. Deze LAG geeft dan ook meer volume en klinkt ook veel beter dan alle parlors die ik tot nu getest heb.

De gitaar is daarnaast ook esthetisch top, de vorm van de kop, de brug en de rozet – overigens geen inleg maar een waterslide - zijn buitengewoon fraai. De zij- en achterkant van Afrikaans mahonie geven een lichte amberkleurige gloed, het Engelmann-sparren bovenblad is massief en bijna wit maar dat gaat automatisch donkerder worden. De zijdeglans lakafwerking alom is onberispelijk. Nadeel vond ik wel dat er alleen aan de bovenrand van het het fretboard positiestippen aangebracht zijn en niet in het midden (heb ik inmiddels zelf aangebracht, maar dat is niet aan iedereen besteed).

Het halsprofiel is precies goed, de mensuur is vrij lang als van een strat/tele. De intonatie is perfect, idem de stringspacing maar de action was voor mij iets te hoog (eenvoudig te verhelpen door de sleuven van de kammen iets in te vijlen). Omdat de lak op de hals niet geheel dekkend is maar met open poriën speelt het aanvankelijk wat stroef (eenvoudig te verbeteren met polijstpapier of -pads en daarna met gitaarpolish of autopoets opwrijven). Het fretboard en de brug zijn van een brown-brankowood, d.i. een ecologisch verantwoorde vervanging van palissander.

De piëzo-pickup en het bedieningspaneeltje doen precies wat je er van mag verwachten, de ingebouwde tuner werkt heel nauwkeurig. De stemmechanieken functioneren prima, maar kunnen wel een beetje olie gebruiken. Het gewicht is in de specificaties aangegeven met 3 kg. maar dat is waarschijnlijk inclusief verpakking, het gewicht van de gitaar zelf is slechts 1.8 kg.

Eindoordeel. In mijn leven heb ik honderden gitaren bespeeld, gerepareerd, geassembleerd etc. Deze LAG biedt de beste kwaliteit-prijsverhouding die ik ooit heb waargenomen. De gitaar had wat afstelling nodig maar past nu naadloos in mijn verzameling waaronder befaamde Amerikaans merken die 5 keer zo duur waren. Super aanbevolen voor fingerpickers, bluesman, country-strummers etc.
