General

Sterling by Music Man caters to every demographic. If you think an original Music Man Axis Super Sport is a bit much, Sterling also allows you to take it down a notch or two. Even their entry-level instruments, such as the red Sterling by Music Man SUB AX3 (Trans Red), are high-quality instruments. Its rugged tones, produced by two humbuckers, are excellently suited for rock music.

The loyal SUB AX3

In many ways, the SUB AX3 is like the Axis, which makes sense considering it was designed for Eddie van Halen. It has the same characteristic body shape with deep cutaways, the distinctive zebra-style pickup covers, and the beautiful quilted maple covered with a red-transparent lacquer. Additionally, it has a tremolo arm for subtle vibrato effects.

Rugged construction

The 22-fret maple neck of the Sterling by Music Man SUB AX3 is bolted onto the body with five screws, ensuring an ultra-rugged connection that greatly enhances tone and sustain. Should you ever wish to adjust the neck, doing so is child's play. The characteristic Music Man truss rod nut is on the end of the neck and can easily be adjusted without removing the neck or strings.

Wrote the following about Sterling by Music Man SUB AX3 Trans Red electric guitar

Imitatie Music Man gitaar, afgeleid van Edward Eddie Van Halen's gitaar.

De gitaar werd slordig afgeleverd. De elementen stonden veel te laag, verticaal scheef, beschermstickers op de pickups waren als het ware vastgesmolten aan de pickups en de snaren waren vies vettig. Na een paar minuten spelen had ik zwarte vingers. Gelukkig had ik nog gitaar reinigingsmiddelen in huis en een paar goede schroevendraaiers. De snaren set direct vervangen. Contact met de Bax helpdesk gehad. Zij mailden dat gitaren standaard NIET worden gecheckt, je kunt deze optie wel bijkopen. Ook kreeg ik ter compensatie een setje nieuwe snaren.

Dan nu de gitaar na afstellen: De vijf standen schakelaar geeft je een legio aan geluid types. Van warm Fender geluid tot Metal met veel bottom end. Vooral geschikt voor rock en blues, maar ook voor ballads, funk en een beetje metal. De tremolo arm werkt zwaar, je moet hard duwen om te benden. Eerlijk gezegd vind ik dat wel fijn spelen, maar veel zwaarder dan wat je gewend bent. De tremolo moet je in eerste instantie naar beneden duwen, je kunt niet beginnen met omhoog trekken. Fijne snelle hals, alles is goed bereikbaar. De volume knop heeft hoorbaar effect op het geluid. De ruis die je bij hoge gain instellingen er gratis bijkrijgt laat zich makkelijk wegfilteren met een gate. De ruis blijft bij het spelen niet meer hoorbaar. Bij sommige gitaren blijft de ruis nogal eens rond het eigenlijke signaal hoorbaar, wat het geluid minder strak maakt. De AX3 heeft echt een mooie strakke toon.

Goede kwaliteit prijs verhouding.
