General

Sterling by Music Man make guitars that combine classic design with innovation and playability and this James Valentine JV60 is a prime example. It has an offset double-cut body made of Mississippi swamp ash with an SH pickup configuration. The Maroon 5 guitarist made the call to position the single-coil pickup at an angle in a humbucker housing at the bridge with a fully-fledged humbucker at the neck. This setup gives you everything you need for playing funky rhythms, warm leads and more.

Valentine JV60: other features

The JV60 has a roasted maple neck and fretboard with a rounded 9.5-inch radius, a 1.65-inch string nut and 22 narrow frets. Locking machine heads make changing strings easier, something that guitarists who play a lot will appreciate. If you also perform regularly, the 12 dB push/pull volume boost is sure to come in handy too. That can also be said for the deluxe gig bag that's included as well.

A very good guitar for the money. Im used to play Music Man USA guitars and this one is not as good, but close enough. The intonation wasnt 100% good and the string height a little to high but thats possible to fix. The neck is medium sized and very nice but if you are a shredder and prefer very thin necks its not for you. I like the sound of the neck pick up but wouldnt mind switching the bridge/tele pick up for a quality humbucker. The boost is useful but makes a loud noice when you push the button. You wouldnt switch it on when youre playing live. Overall a very good guitar for then money if you can find it on sale.
