Smashing down the limits of innovation, Ibanez offer their own take on the headless guitar. Way more than a gimmick, the Q-Series QX54QM-BSM has an uber-lightweight nyatoh body that bears super-ergonomic contouring from the belly-cut to the lower horn, and on, to the chunk that's been taken out of the base, all before it's been topped with a liquid-textured slice of quilted maple. This has been teamed up with a roasted birdseye maple fretboard and three-piece roasted maple and bubinga neck to build a firm and ultimately balanced foundation. This effortless balance is assured by the absent headstock, which has been replaced with a specially designed string lock and a smart Mono-Tune bridge - a system that's fully compatible with standard strings.

The QX54QM-BSM Electric Guitar: Slanted Frets - No Fanning!

At first glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the Ibanez QX54 is an average multi-scale beast with a set of fanned frets, but you'd still be wrong! While the scale length sits at a standard 25.5 inches, each of the 24 Jescar EVO Gold frets have been precisely set at the same eight-degree angle. Beyond that, the fretboard is a nice and flat 20 inches, which combines with the slanted fret installation to support the full technique range, from tapping, to fingerstyle, and even slapping. In brief, the QX54QM-BSM has been built with the discerning guitar-based tech-head in mind.

Fierce and Versatile Sound

The Ibanez team have designed an entirely fresh set of pickups, exclusive to the Q-Series range. So you get a Q58 at the bridge and a pair of R1 single-coils taking up the middle and neck positions. The result is supremely balanced tone that gives as much presence to the lower basses as it does to the higher trebles. Add on the dyna-MIX9 system and flip the fitted Alter Switch to place the single-coils in series and the sonic range expands even further to a total of no less than nine different settings, ranging from light and sparkling cleans to thick and heavy distortions.
