It's really been more than 35 years since Ibanez and Steve Vai first started working together. As such, and besides the legend that is the JEM, the fresh-faced PIA is wise beyond its years and the hardcore Vai fans will already have assumed that it's no coincidence that 'Pia' is also the first name of Mrs. Vai. To summarise the lush aesthetics details: ergonomic Petal-Grips punctuate the sides of the solid-bodied PIA3761, in a soft echo of the Monkey-Grip of the JEM, while a detailed PIA Blossom inlay creeps delicately up the fretboard and a magnetic plate covers the tremolo.

The PIA3761: Elegance and Harmonics

Even the shaping of the alder body commands a touch more elegance while sitting incredibly snug against the body when playing. The extreme cutaways, coupled with the specially shaped backside, give you all the space you will ever need to effortlessly reach the 24th fret. Just like the JEM, the Steve Vai Signature PIA is fitted with a rosewood fretboard, scalloped from fret 21 to 24; every one of the jumbo frets is made using stainless-steel and the neck is finished with Luminlay side-dots for easy orientation in the dark.

High Pass Volume, Edge Tremolo-Bridge and DiMarzio UtoPIA

The three mounted DiMarzio UtoPIA have been specially developed for the PIA and form the HSH configuration. These pickups offer immense tonal variation while delivering a sweeter-than-average high-end and a little less mids than the Vai Evolution pickups. The gain has also been pushed a little further and the low-layers have been tightened. Also, by pulling out the stylishly finished volume pot, the high-pass filter is activated, giving precise transparency without too much treble at lower volumes. To finish, an Edge-Tremolo bridge is mounted to perform horse-whinny-style vibrato tricks using the highly comfortable Ultralite tremolo arm.
