Already considered a modern classic, the EVH Wolfgang Standard sets up guitarists with that iconic 'brown sound' for an affordable price. Here, the basswood body comes topped with a unique slice of koa and fitted with a super-stable baked maple neck - deluxe features fit for any self-respecting tone-chaser.
The Wolfgang Standard Exotic: Poundcake
The neck has been given the tight feel of a thin Wolfgang Backshape profile while the compound radius of the fretboard progresses from a round 12 inches at the headstock to a flatter 16 inches at the body to support snug chord grabbing further down the neck and agile lead work in the higher registers. Everything from death-defying dive-bombs to more subtle and sweet tremolo tricks can be turned using the smooth action of an EVH-branded Floyd Rose tremolo bridge that, with the capable help of the R2 locking nut, also lays down solid tuning. In terms of sound, you're getting the full force of a pair of specially designed and direct-mounted Wolfgang humbuckers. These medium-output double-coils carve out a full, mid-range-rich tone backed up by the balanced foundation of the basswood body, and is at it's Eddie-grade best when squeezed through a flanger, phaser, or wah pedal - or all three.
