The upgraded EVH Wolfgang Standard now comes with a Baked Maple neck, which not only looks exceptionally tasteful but is more stable and comfortable than ever thanks to the special treatment and oil finish it's received. Compared to lacquered necks, it offers a highly natural feel and a smooth glide along its entire length. This signature electric guitar is suitable for both soloists and rhythm guitarists and has a 12 to 16-inch compound radius so you can find the perfect balance between robust riffs, solid chords and impressive leads.

The Wolfgang Standard Baked Maple: Brown Sound With More Than Enough Dynamics

As anticipated, the characteristic basswood body of this WG STD is mounted with two Wolfgang humbuckers to affirm Eddie van Halen's popular Brown Sound with full emphasis on the mid-range. The vintage tonal nature of the magnet gives way to rich dynamics while the 3-way pickup switch and two pots help you find your sweet spot while you dish out smooth licks. Needless to say, this EVH axe is equipped with a Floyd Rose Special tremolo bridge with a matching locking nut to bring out divebomb-laced leads with eased precision and without throwing the tuning of the guitar under the bus.

Na 30 jaar met de zelfde telecaster was ik toe aan wat nieuws.

Bij mijn EVH standard exemplaar ontbraken helaas vijf schroefjes van de afdekplaat van de tremolo. Gevraagd of Bax deze kon na sturen maar de enige optie was de hele gitaar terug sturen. De communicatie met de helpdesk verliep best wel stroef, wellicht door de Corona crisis, maar wel teleurstellend. Bax doet verder niet moeilijk als ik de gitaar terug wil sturen, dus dat is prima.

Verder zat de pickup switch los, maar dat was eenvoudig zelf te verhelpen. Ook zat de locknut los, ik merkte dat het kraakte en rammelde bij gebruik tremolo. Toen ik deze vast zette was een van de twee schroeven in de hals dol gedraait. De locknut zit nu wel vast dus ik heb het zo gelaten (wellicht dat ik de gitaar alsnog terug stuur... twijfel). Het mechanisme om te fine-tunen op de floyd rose is ook niet 100%, als ik sommige snaren stem dan zijn er stukjes op het schroefdraad die ineens stroever lopen. Niet heel erg. Toch best wel veel kleine dingetjes op een splinter nieuwe gitaar (op de doos zat bruine tape, ik vermoed dat dit een teruggestuurd exemplaar is).

De gitaar speelt echt fantastisch. De ongelakte hals voelt echt heerlijk aan. De tremolo is geweldig en ontstemt de gitaar niet. De vorm van de body is heel comfortabel. Het brugelement klinkt best goed zowel clean als distorted. Het halselement wat modderig zowel clean als distorted. Ik heb zeker geen spijt van de keuze voor deze gitaar. Eindconclusie: Ik vind hem er geweldig uitzien, heerlijk spelen maar qua geluid ben ik minder positief dan de vele reviews die ik heb gezien. Slecht klinkt hij zeker niet maar het halselement is voor mij niet heel bruikbaar.
