True Van Halen fans will instantly recognise Eddie Van Halen's Circles guitar, the instrument that was used to record the album Fair Warning. This EVH model is an exact replica of the original, but is just as affordable as any guitar from the Striped Series. Naturally, this EVH Striped Series Circles guitar features a powerful Wolfgang humbucker, as well as the super-stable Floyd Rose tremolo system with D-Tuna.
EVH Striped Series Circles: sound and looks
The Start-style body of the EVH Striped Series Circles is made of basswood, ensuring a low weight and a tight, defined tone. Additionally, the shredding machine has a neck and fingerboard made of maple, which give it a nice bite in the higher tonal regions. To give it a quick and satin-soft feel, the neck has been given a hand-rubbed oil finish. The compound radius of the fingerboard ranges from a 12-inch curve at the nut to a 16-inch curve at the body, allowing for comfortable chords in the lower positions and problem-free bends at the higher frets.
Wolfgang pickup and Floyd Rose tremolo
The electronics of the EVH Striped Series Circles are simple yet effective. The high-output EVH Wolfgang humbucker pickup in bridge position is perfect for serious shredding, and the volume can be controlled by means of a knob labelled 'tone.' A Floyd Rose double locking tremolo bridge, combined with a locking nut, allows for those characteristic Eddie Van Halen dive bombs without detuning your guitar. The D-Tuna, finally, enables you to tune your E string to a D with a single hand movement, for that familiar Drop D tuning.

Dat het een "tone" i.p.v. een "volume"-knop is, is een dingetje van Eddie: "Volume is toch tone?" Een geintje en daarin heeft hij nog gelijk ook natuurlijk.
De lak op de Frankenstein lijkt op dezelfde volgorde als het origineel te zijn aangebracht. Je kunt namelijk onder de rode lak de zwarte strepen nog door zien lopen. Edward's gitaar was immers oorspronkelijk wit met zwarte strepen. Het rood is er later overheen gespoten.
Het leek me leuk dit nog even te melden. Overigens denk ik dat de EVH Circles wat stijlvoller is dan de andere gitaren uit de serie. Hij is alleen gebruikt in 1981 en daarmee veel minder bekend. Daarom kun je met deze gitaar gemakkelijker op een podium staan zonder dan mensen zeggen 'Die denkt dat hij Eddie Van Halen is'.
Mijn opmerkingen doen niets af aan de kwaliteit van de gitaar want die is gewoon goed. Punt. En dat geldt ook voor de service die Bax levert. Vandaar vijf sterren.
