Eastwood Guitars Airline 59 2P DLX red

This flaming red Airline '59 2P DLX by Eastwood is a reissue of the quirky Ariline guitar of the fifties and sixties. A famous example of an original model is the 1964 JB Hutto Montgomery Airline of The White Stripes' Jack White. This Eastwood guitar has the same looks, but features many improvements. The Airline '59 is virtually identical to the Airline 2P DLX, apart from its historically accurate rubber body bindings, the pinstripe on the pickguard and a vintage-style switch plate. What's more, it comes in a luxury case.

Airline '59 2P DLX: modern improvements

The original two-part fibreglass body made way for a more stable mahogany body with hollow sound chambers for added resonance and rich mids. Bolted to the body is a comfortable maple neck with a 20-fret rosewood fretboard. 2P in the model's name stands for two pickups - bright sounding single-coils with humbucker looks for this Airline '59. Each pickup has its own volume and tone controls that allow for a wide range of guitar sounds - from sparkling and twangy to warm and dark - in combination with the 3-position pickup switch and master volume.

Hardware and special features

The Eastwood Airline '59 2P DLX is equipped with a fully adjustable Tune-O-Matic bridge with a trapezoid tailpiece to which the strings are attached. The tuners are a set of smooth yet solid Vintage Kluson types. The Airline model is characterised by its unique angular design and beveled body edges. This '59 version has distinctive rubber bindings to cover the seam between the two halves of the fibreglass body. Also, the white switch plate has been replaced by a vintage-type one with Tone Switch indicators.
