This affordable four-string delivers the deep-and-sparkling amplified sound of two Wilkinson WJB800 single-coil pickups. Wrote the following about Vintage VJ74SSB Electric Bass Guitar (Sunburst)

Vintage EJM 96, dat is de voorloper van deze Vintage Wilkinson VJ 74.

Zo'n 10 jaar geleden kocht ik van een opa bassist de EJM 96 , die met de hand op de borst plechtig bezwoer dat " de EJM akelig dicht bij een echte Fender zat kwalitatief...." .

UIteraard nam ik dit met een korrel zout. Edoch de eerlijkheid gebiedt mij te verklaren dat de Vintage EJM inderdaad geen C merk beginnersbasje maar een B merk was op het niveau van Squier VM.

Datzelfde geldt ook voor de huidige Vintage jazzbass (de sunburst maple neck heb ik een paar maanden bespeeld).

De Vintage is moet ik eerlijk zeggen , in weerwil van de toch goede afwerking (alhoewel de frets....) ietwat kleurloos.
Ook miste ik wat power in het midden gebied, alsof het niet goed door de bandmix doorklinkt. Misschien dat het aan de populieren body ligt ? Een beetje een leeg geluid: je hoort uiteraard wel " bas" maar het wil maar niet echt pushen, en " duwen" .

Beetje braaf basje.

Qua feel en algehele kwaliteit is het beslist niet slecht maar hij mist wat aan " mojo" .

Toch prefereer ik deze bas boven de vergelijkbare Squier sunburst VM die een stuk duurder is.

Ik neig naar een 3,5 ster maar op basis van mijn ervaring met enkele Vintage Wilkinson jazz bassen: een dikke 3.

Niks mis mee en al helemaal niet gezien de prijs. Met deze bas zou ik zonder enig schroom op een Pasar Malam kontrie kontrie spelen....
