General

Sire and Marcus Miller knew right off the bat that an affordable J-style bass with a swamp ash body had to be part of their range of 5-string V7 instruments. It also needed to have a durable maple bolted-on neck and rosewood fretboard. The acoustic sound of this bass offers tight lows and plenty of punch in the highs. The mid frequency is slightly less prominent in the overall sound, which accentuates the bass, allowing it cut through the mix with clarity and definition. Heavy Mass Standard string-thru-body bridge and bone string nut contribute to this bass guitar's sweet, acoustic sustain.

Marcus Miller V7 5ST Ash: active/passive, and versatile

When it comes to amplifying this Sire 5-string, there are a number of options. The electronics make it possible to play virtually any genre, whether it's funk, jazz or even metal. The sound of the strings is captured by two Marcus Super Jazz single-coils and then sent to the preamp and tone control. Toggle the 18-volt preamp between active and passive to generate the sound you want, when you want it. Two of the five rotary knobs are stacked, so as well as controls for tone, treble and bass, you've also got combined controls at your disposal for volume/tone and middle/middle frequency; for this dual potmeter, you can select the mid-range you want to either disguise or emphasise. The sky's the limit with the Marcus Miller V7 5ST Ash Bright Metallic Red MN bass!
