Ready to get into six-string basses and want to start out with a lightweight model with a modern build and sound to match? Then the Ibanez Soundgear Series SR606E is a safe bet. The thin ash body combines with a nicely flat SR-6 neck made from jatoba and walnut, plus a rosewood fretboard lined with twenty-four medium-jumbo frets that support both rhythm work and solos.

The Ibanez SR606E: Tight, Sustain-Rich Sound

The mix of the wood types that Ibanez has opted for results in a bright foundation sound and a healthy dose of sustain. Plugged in, two Nordstrand Big Break pickups and the active Custom Electronics preamp take over to turn the acoustic sound into tightly amplified sound, which can be extensively tweaked thanks to the 3-band EQ controls and 3-way mid-frequency switch.
