General

The lightly stripped down electronics section of the Gibson Original Collection SG Standard Bass is the only feature that sets it apart from the original and legendary short-scale EB-3, and it couldn't be more welcome. Both mounted double-coils come with standard, dedicated volume pots, but one simple tone control is provided for eased tonal shaping, and it's this detail that sharpens up the user-friendliness of this classic bass. Meanwhile, every bit of that clear and familiar, mid-frequency-rich foundation sound is shaped by the classic mahogany body, set-in mahogany neck, and rosewood fretboard combo. The Gibson SG comes complete with its very own hardshell case and accessory kit.

The SG Standard Bass: Wide-Ranging Tone and Solid Playing Comfort

Even with this more simplified set up, the tone and volume pots are still able to pull an alarming range of tone out of the definition-packed Lead SG Bass mini-humbucker at the bridge and the creamy, full-fat Rhythm SG Bass humbucker at the neck. The comfortably softened edges of the otherwise brutal body shape of this SG couple with the Rounded neck profile, familiar 12" fretboard radius, and shorter, 30.5" scale length to provide tight and snug playability, while the reliable 3-Point Adjustable bridge and Grover machine heads maintain solid stability.

Wrote the following about Gibson Original Collection SG Standard Bass Ebony with Case

Na een mustang bas en een jazz bass te hebben gehad, ben ik overgestapt op de Gibson SG bas. Deze short scale werkt voor mij als af en toe bassende gitarist iets beter dan een lange schaal van de jazz bass. De bas klinkt mooi vol en je hebt met de twee zeer verschillende pickups de mogelijkheid tot veel verschillende geluiden. In tegenstelling tot de reputatie vind ik het een heel veelzijdige en duidelijk klinkende bas (geen mudbucker of alleen thud geluid wat mij betreft). De bas weegt ook nog eens zo licht als een veertje en is que ergonomie ook fijn om te bespelen. Prima alternatief van Gibson die meer bassisten zouden moeten overwegen als optie.
