If you've ever been inside, or seen a picture of a radio studio, you'll recognise the Shure SM7B instantly. They're quite popular! The SM7B is a dynamic microphone with a flat frequency range that was tailored for speech and vocals. It features full magnetic shielding to prevent interference from devices like computer screens and telephones, making it perfect for use in a studio environment. Background noise is countered by a bass roll-off filter, while handling noise is reduced by the special built-in 'air suspension' shock mount. An effective pop filter, meanwhile, keeps your recordings free of wind and breath noise.
Shure is all about the technological side of things. No wonder the SM7B microphone has an exceptionally wide frequency range that extends from 50 Hz to 20 kHz, covering virtually the entire spectrum of human hearing. Its cardioid pickup pattern ensures that feedback won't be much of a problem, even in a noisy studio. Only the speech and vocals directed at the mic are captured, without being tainted by monitor sounds or background chatter from colleagues.

Wij gebruiken hem voor podcasts opnames en met deze combinatie hebben wij eigenlijk helemaal niets meer nodig om de audio echt te editten. (natuurlijk kan je hier veel verder in gaan). Maar voor ons is deze combinatie echt een plug & play!
In vergelijking met een 'gewone' dynamische microfoon zoals een SM-58 is dit een enorme upgrade.
Vergeleken met een condensator microfoon is het gewoon een heel ander ding.
Als je opneemt in een onbehandelde ruimte of met meerdere muzikanten tegelijk dan is het zeker een aanrader. Wel redelijk aan de prijs.
Bedenk wel of je audio interface genoeg gain kan leveren, Shure raad 60db aan en niet elke interface heeft zoveel. Als je gewoon de mic gebruikt voor casual gaming dan is rond de 57 wel prima maar, zodra je wilt zingen, streamen of podcasten dan is een cloudlifter of fethead wel handig.
Daar buiten geweldige kwaliteit, enige nadeel is dat de switches aan de achterkant wat lastig te verzetten zijn, hier heb je wel iets voor nodig of ze te kunnen switchen, en echt een ster in het verwijderen van achtergrond geluid!
Door zijn lage output kun je hem haast niet oversturen wat naast het niet oppikken van achtergrond geluid een absoluut pluspunt is van deze microfoon.
Tip bestel de A26X verlengbuis erbij als je hem gaat ophangen aan een Yellowtec Mika arm, de XLR plug past anders niet lekker en je kunt de mic niet draaien anders.
Heeft wel een flinke preamp nodig of iets als een Cloudlifter of een Fethead om het volume wat te boosten. Zonder dat zijn de opnames wel erg zacht. Maar met een in-line boost is het een geweldige microfoon. Vangt weinig achtergrond geluid op dus je hoort ook minder reflecties / galm van de ruimte waar in je opneemt. Dus ook goed te gebruiken in suboptimale kamers.
