General

Vic Firth's signature series drumsticks are made to the specifications of famous drummers. Take, for instance the Vic Firth SJM Jojo Mayer signature drum sticks. The Swiss drummer is particularly well-known for his ability to play complicated drum 'n bass patterns with the accuracy of a drum machine. Add to that his enormous creativity, and he blows the drum machine right out of the water. As for these sticks, they look like regular 5A models, but they're a little shorter and a little thicker. They feature a barrel top which allows for a quick, bright response. Finally, these Vic Firth Jojo Mayer drumsticks are made of hickory and have a white finish.

Wrote the following about Vic Firth SJM Jojo Mayer drum sticks

Ik gebruik deze stokken nu al zo'n 10 jaar. Zowel voor jazz als voor rock, pop, etc. Af en toe probeer ik weer eens wat anders, maar ik kom elke keer weer terug bij deze. De dikte in combinatie met de taper en lengte zorgt voor een vlotte behendige stok waar je toch behoorlijk hard mee kan slaan.
Er zijn voor mij een paar nadelen:
1. De stok is vrij kort. Vooral als ik weer eens een optreden met 5a doe, en daarna terugga naar de SJM, dan kom ik nog wel eens stok te kort.
2. De witte coating is op zich prettig voor de grip, maar het laat wel een witte aanslag achter op je bekkens. Ook levert het wit zaagsel op wat je terugvindt in je tapijt en op je broek.
Kortom: een signature stick die écht uniek is, maar je moet er van houden.

Ik was echt onder de indruk toen ik deze stokken voor het eerst gebruikte.
Wat korter dan ik gewend ben maar ze liggen echt heel erg fijn in de hand.
Deze stokken moedigen je aan om met goede techniek te spelen, zo lekker spelen ze.

Geweldige stokken, doordat ze iets korter en een dikkere grip hebben dan gewone 5a stokken, maakt het deze stokken erg snel, ze liggen door die grip goed in de hand en zijn daardoor erg wendbaar. De barreltip zorgt voor een mooi bekken en trommelgeluid. Met Vic Firth SJM, is mijn zoektocht naar de perfecte drumstok voorbij!

Sad news from the United States: Everett 'Vic' Firth, founder of the renowned Vic Firth brand of drumsticks, has passed away at age 85. This was announced on the Vic Firth Company's web site on July 27th, 2015. Everett Firth was a pioneer in the world of drumsticks and mallets, and ever since the 1960s he's been setting the bar for the companies that followed.
