General

For some years already, Behringer have been on a mission to reincarnate all of the long-dead gods of the synthesizer-world, and now, turn their attention on every legendary genre-defining drum machine there ever was. Here, the TR-909 gets the full Behringer treatment, bringing a beast of a drum machine back to life and raising the sound of the nineties from the dead. From Madonna, all the way through to Bjork, the direct ancestor of this little box has a lot to answer for.

The Behringer RD-9 Drum Machine

When talking about '80s drum machines, the TR-808 and 909 are often mentioned in the same breath. The 808 is better known for shaping genres that demand a little more space in the mix and better serves more chilled out tracks, while the 909 has a much thicker presence, especially when it comes to that notoriously fat kick. Just like the original TR-909, the RD-9 is based entirely on analogue sounds and uses hi-hat and cymbal samples, and of course, comes equipped with that renowned x0x-style step-time sequencer for smooth beat shaping.

Other Awesome Features

While retaining the pure soul of the OG TR-909, Behringer have also made a few of their own little additions, including extra kick drum parameters for extra nuance and even more presence in the mix. Since the 909 had MIDI, so does the RD-9, but here, you get the maximum convenience and smooth setup integration offered by a USB-MIDI port. Add it all up and you have yet another vintage-classic wrapped up in a brand-new jacket and made available for a less vintage-style price.

Prefer a balanced connection, it hisses a little more when unbalanced!
