General

The XR20 is a portable beat producer, equipped with sounds that are ideal for hip hop and R&B productions. More than 700 pre-programmed sounds and an integrated effect units for reverb, EQ and compression provide you with all the tools you need to make fantastic beats.

A built-in microphone input allows you to add vocals to your creations, while the pads of the XR20 follow the beat and light up when they're activated, giving you a clear overview. The drum machine offers both acoustic and electronic drums, as well as single hits and bass and synth sounds, allowing you to make fantastic mixes in no time whatsoever.

Voor dit geld kan je met de akai erg veel plezier hebben. Hij lijkt heel beperkt maar voor de wat meer ervaren gebruiken zeker niet ! Panning tot + en - 12 elke pad kan je zelf ook instellen !

Na iets van 5 drumcomputers te hebben uitgeprobeerd, heb k deze aangeschaft. Ik heb hem nu een dikke week. En ik ben eindelijk enthousiast.

Akai positioneert de XR20 als hiphop/afrobeat-drumcomputer. Klopt als je de presets gebruikt, maar er zitten genoeg sounds in om heel andere muziek te maken. Synthwave in mijn geval. Ik heb de XR20 via midi gekoppeld aan mijn synth (Roland Juno G) en samplepad (Roland SPD SX). Werkt perfect.

Het gebruiksgemak is echt ongekend. Zo simpel een eigen kit samenstellen, zo eenvoudig een pattern/fill opbouwen: ik heb het bij andere apparaten en software niet meegemaakt. Een song stel je ook zo samen. Voetpedaaltjes kunnen er aan, dus je houdt je handjes vrij voor andere apparaten. O, en ook 'on the flow' variëren op een pattern is heel eenvoudig, zeker met de Note Repeat-knop (leuke feature!).

Naast drums zit er o.a. ook een basssynth-sequencer in. Met iets van 100 geluiden die je nog een beetje kan tweeken. Heeeeel fijn en wederom: erg gebruiksvriendelijk. De XR20 werkt op batterijen, dus hij kan lekker mee in de trein of naar het park.

Minpuntje is dat je geen eigen samples kunt toevoegen en dat de reverb/effect-toepassingen wat beperkt zijn (je kan niet op 1 step een galm toevoegen, maar alleen op de hele kit). De keerzijde is dat het apparaat daardoor heel gebruiksvriendelijk is. En desondanks ontzettend veelzijdig met fijne sounds.

Kan ik hiermee ook gebruik maken van mijn eigen gemaakte sounds? Of samples die zich op mijn pc bevinden? Of is het alleen puur de ingebouwde kits/banks?

After they launched the LPD8 and the LPK25, Akai developed wireless versions of both these controllers, namely the AKAI LPD8 Wireless USB MIDI controller and the AKAI LPK25 Wireless USB MIDI keyboard. Both are equipped with a Bluetooth 4.0 LE (Low Energy) interface, but you can also connect them to your Mac or PC via USB, which charges them at the same time.
