The MA52ZS-SPW is part of Tama's Starclassic Maple series, which proudly showcases the manufacturer's extensive experience in the field. The result is a shell set with thinner shells and highly modern hardware. It consists of a 22 x 18-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms, and 14 x 12 and 16 x 14-inch floor toms that offer a warm, rich sound. Thanks to the Satin Pearl White finish, it has a stylish white look, which is complemented nicely by the chrome-plated hardware.

Thin maple shells

Thanks to Tama's years of experience working with the warm-sounding maple, they managed to make the shells exceptionally thin. The shells still consist of just as many plies of maple as before (6 for the toms and floor toms, 8 for the bass drum), but these individual plies are thinner. As a result, the shells sound more open than ever, a feat that is only enhanced by the special tom mounts. The StarCast tom mounting system suspends the toms by their hoops, ensuring minimal contact with the shells. Furthermore, the floor tom legs also help enhance the sound, as they feature special air chambers that prevent the vibrations from disappearing into the ground.

Modern shell hardware

Setting up this drum kit is a remarkably quick and easy process - mostly thanks to Tama's Quick-Lock system, which was applied to the toms and floor toms. The bass drum hoops feature the same white finish as the shells, but because the bass drum claw hooks have a rubber lining, the finish won't be damaged. The tom and floor tom hoops are made of die-cast zinc, so that they have no structural weak spots and keep the drumhead tension even. Finally, all tension rods are fitted with rubber Hold Tight washers, which keep them from coming loose.
