Tama's Starclassic Maple series takes full advantage of the manufacturer's years of experience, which is clearly evident by its looks and sound. Thin shells have been fitted with modern hardware to form the base of this kit. It consists of a 22 x 18-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms, and 14 x 12 and 16 x 14-inch floor toms. The whole is finished with an elegant Satin Pearl White lacquer and black nickel-plated hardware.

Thin maple shells

Thanks to Tama's years of experience working with the warm-sounding maple, they managed to make the shells exceptionally thin. The shells still consist of just as many plies of maple as before (6 for the toms and floor toms, 8 for the bass drum), but these individual plies are thinner. As a result, the shells sound more open than ever, a feat that is only enhanced by the special tom mounts. The StarCast tom mounting system suspends the toms by their hoops, ensuring minimal contact with the shells. Furthermore, the floor tom legs also help enhance the sound, as they feature special air chambers that prevent the vibrations from disappearing into the ground.

Modern shell hardware

The toms and floor toms are equipped with the Quick-Lock system, that makes setting up your kit a total breeze. Meanwhile, the bass drum features special claw hooks with a rubber lining that protects the wooden hoops. The tom and floor tom hoops are made of die-cast zinc, which means they have no structural weak spots. That, in turn, means the tension is evenly distributed across the drumhead, and that rimshots will produce a powerful sound. The tension itself is kept consistent by the rubber Hold Tight washers that prevent the tension rods from coming loose.
