Pearl RF924XFP/C393 Reference Purple Craze II shell set

General

Each individual shell in Pearl's RF924XFP/C393 Reference Purple Craze II shell set offers its own full sound. To achieve this, each shell is made of a different combination of birch and mahogany to enhance the tonal characteristics of the maple base. This shell set consists of a 22x18-inch bass drum, 10x8 and 12x9-inch toms and a 14x14-inch floor tom. Each shell boasts a glittery Purple Craze II high-gloss finish that gets darker towards the edges and contrasts beautifully with the chrome shell hardware.

Special shell construction

By using maple as a base, Pearl's shells boast a wide dynamic range with a solid low and great distribution of mid and high tones. The 12-inch tom in this set is made completely out of maple (6 plies). For the 10-inch tom, however, two of those plies are replaced with birch, a type of wood that emphasises the high tones while maintaining good mid and low tones. With the floor tom, mahogany is used to replace those two plies, which enables the bass tones to come through loud and clear. For this reason, the bass drum has six plies of mahogany, surrounded by two plies of maple. All layers are made with the very best wood and glued together using Pearl's very own Superior Shell Technology.

Sleek shell technology

The shells in this set have been constructed with so much care and attention to detail, so the shell hardware clearly needed to follow suit! They are equipped with die-cast MasterCast rims which have no weak spots and maintain optimal tension. The drumheads are placed over specially-designed hoops. The toms have a rounded 45-degree bearing edge that enable it to really ring out! Both the floor tom and the bass drum have a fully rounded bearing edge to create as much contact as possible between the drumhead and the shell. The toms, on the other hand, make minimal contact with the shell thanks to the OptiMount Suspension System. With this excellent collaboration between shells and hardware, and each drum equipped Remo drumheads, Pearl's Reference series sets the standard in terms of quality and sound!
