Kits in DW Drums' Performance series stand out not only because of their beautiful design but also because of the outstanding sound quality of their maple shells. If you're looking for a professional shell set to base your kit on, the Performance series is certainly worth a closer look. The shells in this set have a Black Diamond finish. Be aware that this shell set doesn't include a snare drum, hardware or cymbals but tom holders are included.

DW Drums Performance Black Diamond 22

This 4-piece shell set is suitable for all-round drummers and consists of a 22 x 18-inch bass drum that produces a deep, warm-sounding tone with plenty of punch and focus. The 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms have a deep, warm sound too and because they're not attached to the bass drum, each one doesn't interfere with the sound of the other. There's also a 16 x 14-inch floor tom that's equipped with three strong and stable feet.

Construction

The Performance series shells are made of North American maple which grows more slowly than the Japanese variety. Because of this, it has greater density which translates into more resonance and therefore more sound too. Believe it or not, even the direction of the wood grain is taken into consideration when putting together the 8 plies of maple that make up each shell for the best possible sound. DW Drums refer to this as HVX construction. The second image shows how the shells are put together. The shells are given bearing edges of 45 degrees as this also adds to the optimal sound quality. Finally, triple flanged hoops and TruePitch tension rods ensure stable tuning.

Wrote the following about DW Drums Performance Black Diamond 22 4-piece shell set

Een onwijs drumstel.
Na een jaar erop gespeeld te hebben valt er nog steeds niets op aan te merken.
De drums zien er prachtig uit op het podium en klinken erg goed met een dubbellaags vel op de toms (bijvoorbeeld een EC2S).
De tomhouders van DW kwamen niet meegestuurd toen de bestelling aankwam, maar bax loste dat snel kosteloos op.
